Sad update: Beignet is at the Bridge with Sweet Praline. He passed away halfway through the surgery while under anesthesia. He was only 11 weeks old and all because of a vaccination. This is so sad.
Beignet is facing another surgery today. The results from the pathology report were not good. It appears he had a fast growing Vaccination-Associated Fibrosarcomas (VAS) as the result of his vaccination. This happens rarely (in about 1% of cats), but unfortunately, Beignet fell into that small percentage. I found an article on-line from a vet that explained this type of cancer where the average person can understand it a little better. You can read this article here. We don't know what Beignet's prognosis will be, but Mom Terri will give him a quality life for as long as he remains on Earth. Mom Terri has promised to keep me informed about Beignet. I'm so sad. I love this little mancat. I just don't know what else to say except to please send Mom Terri and Beignet extra strong purrs and purrayers.
If you would like to send Mom Terri a personal message of support, you can email her here.

Oh, Paula, we are so sorry Beignet's lump proved to be this. You were so worried and we know you are sad not to be able to bring Beignet home to make his new home with you. We will purr for Beignet's surgery and the the vets to be very skilled in getting out all the cancer. Of course we will also purr for Terri, because this must be very difficult for her as well.
ReplyDeleteOh, no! This really isn't what we were expecting, we truly thought the pathology report would be negative, that he'd be fine. We're so, so sorry. Our loudest purrs to sweet little Beignet, to Terri and to you.
ReplyDeletePaula - we are so, so sorry to hear this - we honestly thought this was just a reaction and mum had never heard of VAS until today.
ReplyDeleteWe are purring for sweet Beignet now facing his second surgery and are praying hard for him.

ReplyDeleteEva & Gracie's Mom
That is so sad Paula, we can get the tears to stop up here. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteOh no. We are so, so sorry. We will purray for all of you today.
ReplyDeleteOh Paula, I cannot believe that this has happened to you and Beignet and Truffles too. Poor thing will miss her brother. Is there any chance you can get one of the kitties from the other litter?? We will write Terri, and are sending tons and tons of purrs to Beignet. We are praying that he have a nice long life and that it never comes back. Big huge hugs to you Paula. We know you are so upset over all this. Try to get one of the other kittens. Take care.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sad to hear about little Beignet. We are purring for him and hope his surgery goes well. We are purring for you too, mom Paula...you have had your share of sadness lately.
ReplyDeleteThis is such sad news! We will definitely send purrs to Beignet. We know you and Truffle love him very much and it breaks our hearts that he won't be coming to live with you both.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sad to hear about Beignet. Purrs and prayers to all of you.
ReplyDeleteI am deeply deeply sorry...and in tears for this precious baby. Paula..love and purrs and may this darling spirit get stronger and be with you..his mom, soon.
ReplyDeleteLittle Beignet is in our thoughts today. And thank you for the links (it is the one Teri already had bookmarked and one they use at the cat hospital where she works to help inform clients). And see, Beignet is already bringing awareness of this terrible cancer to people who had never heard of it. That is a positive thing, in the midst of all this sadness.
ReplyDeleteOne thing, do no be surprised when you see him after surgery and how large the incision will be. With VAS, because of the 'tentacle' like spread of the tumors can happen, the surgeon will remove a large area,4-5 times the size of the tumor, to try and get 'clean margins.
We will write to Terri, so many are thinking of her today and in the days to come...
We are so sorry to hear this.....and sad that he won't be coming to live with you. We are sending huge purrs to you and Beignet and Terri!!!
ReplyDeletePaula, I am so sorry that this happened to sweet Beignet. Sending the biggest hugSSSSS from all the Taylor CatSSSSS.

We are keeping little Beignet in our thoughts and purrs today. Last night Mom sent Terri a message via FB. Special (((HUGS))) for you Mom Paula.
ReplyDeleteWe are joining paws in a purr circle today in honor of precious Beignet.
ReplyDeleteSuch sad news. We are going to purr non-stop for dear little Beignet. We hope he is strong enough to survive. We are sending him love and luck.
ReplyDelete((((((hugs)))) for you Miss Paula too, and Beignet's lil furry sister. We are so sad for mom Terri too, it must have been a terrible shock for you all.
I'm so, so sorry to hear this! The news is quite shocking. We're sending our most healing purrs to Beignet that the surgery will be successful, and that he will live a long and happy life.
ReplyDeleteWe're sending purrs to Mom Terri, too. I'm sure this is devastating to her.

ReplyDeleteAw, poor little guy. We hope you'll be able to take another kitten to be with Truffle.
ReplyDelete"The Boys" and I are sending warm thoughts and purrs to Beignet, to you, to Terr and to Truffle. We're so sad to learn about this latest event with Beignet. He's such a sweetie.
ReplyDeleteAs some of the others have said, we hope you are able to get a little friend for Truffle...and for you, too, at some point.
Unbelievable!!!! We are so sorry and sad to hear this news. Poor little guy it is just so unfair.
ReplyDeleteFor this to happen to one so young is so sad. And for you to come to love him and then not be able to bring him home with Truffle would be very hard. We hope Beignet's surgery today will be successful. Will send a note to mom Terri.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry that this has happened and we are purring hard for
ReplyDeleteBeignet. Hugs to you and Mom
Terri. Many prayers going up for this sweet little one.
Warmest healing purrs to little Beignet and comforting purrs to you, Mom Paula, and to Terri. We wish him a full recovery!
ReplyDelete'Kaika's mom here: If Beignet's vaccination was given in a rear leg, removal of the leg often takes care of the situation and tripods can live full, happy lives. It just seems apparent that this little guy is very sensitive to the adjuvants in vaccines (as are a number of kittens). Has Terri considered consulting an holistic vet regarding the use of nosodes instead of vaccines for her kittens?
Ikaika, the vaccine that was given to Beignet was a non-adjuvant vaccine. That is why everyone is so surprised by the reaction.
ReplyDeleteWe are sending lots and lots of purrs to Beignet and Miss Terri. We are also keeping you in our purrs as well Mom Paula.
ReplyDeletepurrs

Oh no. I didn't expect this to be the results from the pathology report. I am so very sorry. We are sending our very best purrs to sweet Beignet. It seems so unfair for this to happen to a bebbeh cat.
ReplyDeleteWe are sending our very best purrs and purrayers to all of you. Know that you are all surrounded by love and healing thoughts.

ReplyDeleteI can't even begin to express how sad and very sorry I am about Beignet. Sending you lots of soft purrs. (((hugs)))
ReplyDeleteOh Paula--we are so sad to hear about this. Poor little guy! He seemed like he was such a little lovebug and I am so sad to think that his life was so short--perhaps that is because cats only get to give so much love. Our thoughts to Terri as well as to you and that sweet little angel cat who is right now sitting on Praline's head (he is a boy so I am certain that is what he is doing) across the Bridge.
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely rotten news. It makes me so angry - life is so unfair sometimes. But we do know that Praline is with him now, taking care of him.
ReplyDeleteoh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This can not be!!! Oh I am so very sorry Paula and for Terri...
ReplyDeleteI do not know what to say other than I have never believed indoor kitties need to be vaccinated...that is just my personal opinion since I have heard this sad tale over and over again of kitties reacting in this way to them.
How I wish I could hug you close...Karla
We are all leaky eyed to read about Beignet. Guess Miss Prailine will have the little guy to keep her company.
ReplyDelete{{{{HUGS}}}} and purrs, you have been through so much over the past few months.

ReplyDeleteYou and Truffle are in our deep purrs and prayers
I was just about to go to bed and checked my blogs again...I am so sorry to hear about sweet Beignet's passing. For one so young, he had a battle to fight and his passing was gentle, if that softens the sadness at all. Try to remember the love you shared and how, in his way, he helped you love again...that is a very special thing indeed. Hugs across the innernets to you...
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about Beignet. Hugs, purrs and prayers to all. We hope you will consider a playmate for Truffle.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for you, Truffle, Chloe and Mom Terri. We are sure Sweet Praline is caring for Beignet. Do consider finding a playmate for Truffle after the shock has lessened. Sometimes, no matter how much love and what great care is given, some lives are far too short.
ReplyDeletePurrs and woofs,
kira, Siobahn, Padraic, their human and angel Maeve.
We are so sorry to hear that Beignet has crossed over. This is so sad, and he was just a tiny baby! Our purrs, purrayers, hugs, headbumps, and lotsa luf are coming to you, Terri, and Truffle from Us and Maw.
ReplyDeleteLuf, Us
We are so sorry that Beignet didn't make it through surgery. We know you and Truffle loved him very much and he will be missed. Purrs of sympathy.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh this is just tragic! Poor sweet Beignet, please accept our heartfelt condolences.
ReplyDeleteOh my Bast, Mom Paula! We are so very sorry to hear this news about little Beignet. Our human's eyes are leaking for the little one. And like Miss Teri said, at least his passing was peaceful and he did not suffer with the cancer. Oh dear, such a sad week!
ReplyDeleteOh this is very sad. We remember Latte had a reaction from a vaccination. Makes us wonder if they are really necessary.
ReplyDeletePurrs to all of you.
Big ((hugs)) from all of us at Prancer Pie's blog. We know your heart is broken again. Purrs and purrayers. xoxo
ReplyDeleteCommiserations Beignet's family. I've only just found you blog but it's already made me tear up! And you know what, Orion and Junior, I really don't think they are necessary. Definitley not before 8 weeks, definitely not as a group of them attacking/compromising a young cat's/kitten's immune system and absolutely not using live viruses for the vaccines. But we all do our very best and it hurts so much when our baby is the 1 in a million that reacts badly. Blessings to you all.
ReplyDeleteOh no! How awful. Poor baby. Purrs and hugs to you and Truffle and Terri!
ReplyDeleteWe are so sad to hear this awful news. Sweet Praline is there for him, we just know it.
ReplyDeleteThere really are no words that can express my shock and profound sadness by this turn of events. This is such sad news. I am so very sorry for your loss. This is a devastating blow for you. Perhaps you will be able to take little Truffle home sooner so you and she can heal each other. Then, perhaps in time you and Truffle can add a new baby to the household as I am sure she will miss her beloved brother very much.
ReplyDelete"They" say we never get more than we can handle. I think you've had quite enough for a while. My heartfelt condolences to you.
