Brulee's New Bed
Remember yesterday when Brulee was playing on the "old" mattress. Well, last night, Mom Paula had a new mattress delivered and to our surprise, she also put on new sheets and a comforter. Just as soon as the bed was made, Brulee immediately jumped on the bed and parked herself right in the center.
Mom Paula left for a few hours to run some errands with Grandma Faye and when she got back home 3 hours later, Truffle met her at the door but not Brulee. Mom Paula went searching for Brulee and she was still laying in the middle of her new bed. I guess Brulee has claimed the bed as her own.
We'll let you know later how well it slept (and if Mom Paula likes it).

Friday at the Movies: Flashback Friday
We wanted to share this video today because we're saying goodbye to our pillow top mattress that we've enjoyed for 3 years. A new one is arriving this afternoon and we hear it conforms to our bodies. Hmmmmm. We're not so sure we're going to like that. Bye mattress. You were well loved.

Sandstorm is Coming!
All of you who know us, know that Mom Paula is a huge South Carolina Gamecock fan! Today is the first game of the season and it's the first college football game for the nation tonight at 6:00 pm. Of course, Mom Paula will be there. Brûlée is little worried about the predicted "sandstorm" and hopes Mom Paula will be okay since she sits in the bottom of that big stadium (see circle and arrow)
Truffle tries to calm Brûlée by telling her that Sandstorm is a musical number that is played in the stadium to "rile up" the Gamecock fans. (Brûlée still isn't so sure because that looks like a big cloud of sand ). They start waving white towels in the air and jump up and down. The stadium really gets pretty loud during this storm. The Gamecocks haven't lost a home game the past two years and we hope this tradition continues.

Brulee's 3rd Birthday
Brulee is 3 years old today! We remember this time 3 years ago when only 4 short days after little Beignet went to the bridge, Truffle's half sister was born. Mom Paula had no idea that there were kittens scheduled to be born when we lost Beignet, so imagine her surprise when Mom Terri told her that there were some more kittens coming and Truffle could have a little sister.
Who could believe this little dark haired cutie . . .
Brulee - 5 days old
would turn into this silver haired beauty?

Pee ess - don't tell Brulee, but she has a vet appointment today!

Remembering Beignet
We want to pause from our playful daily activities to remember Truffle's little brother, Beignet. Beignet was Truffle's only litter mate and was scheduled to come live with Mom Paula. Many of you will remember that Beignet developed a vaccine associated sarcoma (VAS) from his vaccination and died on the operating table (removing the tumor) at 11 weeks of age. He was Mom Paula's little mancat, but God thought he belonged with Angel Sweet Praline at the bridge and he left us too soon. The photo below was one of our favorites of Truffle and Beignet together for their glamour shot right before his tumor developed. We smile thinking of Beignet keeping Sweet Praline on her toes at the bridge with his kitten antics.
Truffle (left) and Beignet (right) at 10 weeks
Mom Paula: I try not to think of this day 3 short years ago because it was within 4 months of losing Sweet Praline to cancer. Just like with Sweet Praline, I now try to remember the happy times. Little Beignet never got to come live with me, but I visited him 3-4 times those short 11 weeks of his life. The picture above is one of my favorites of Truffle and Beignet because you can just see the love they had for each other. How much sweeter can you get with little Beignet nestling under Truffle's chin?

Remembering Sparkle
We lost a dear blogging furriend, Sparkle, yesterday. Sparkle was a beautiful Somali kitty with attitude (like Angel Sweet Praline) who had been part of the CB for a long time. She was always there to give advice, support an important cause, and to put up with her siblings Binga and Boodie. Sparkle was our Secret Paw two years ago and always found the time to visit our blog. We're comforted in knowing that Sparkle is at the Bridge with Angel Sweet Praline and Angel Beignet watching over all of us. We understand there is a new furchild taking over the reigns and look forward to meeting her. We honor Sparkle today by pausing to remember her. She will be missed. The photo below was submitted for use in the 2014 Cats of the CB Calendar and we hope Mom Janiss doesn't mind us sharing it here.

Photo Hunt: Curse
Wow! The theme for the Photo Hunt today was kind of tough! We know there are lots of superstitions out there and we've heard about someone being cursed before, but we've had no experience. However, we remembered a special curse that was specific to our beloved South Carolina Gamecocks called the "Chicken Curse."
The Gamecocks haven't had the best history of winning in college football (or any other sports) until recently. According to legend, the curse began when then-governor Ben Tillman, who along with Thomas Green Clemson, for whom Clemson University is names, pushed for the need for a school to cater to the poor farmers of the state. However, the elitists in urban areas like Charleston and Columbia, as well as the South Carolina Legislature tried everything in their power to stop the school from being formed. Longs story short, Clemson would be established and Tillman, who would serve 24 years in Congress, did everything in his power to torture the University of South Carolina, going as far as the legend goes, slamming a pitchfork into the ground of South Carolina's campus, declaring the school to be cursed. And from that point, the university's athletic teams, which became Gamecocks in 1901, would be doomed to mediocrity.
Mom Paula remembers sitting through the 1-10 and 0-11 football seasons and always hoping the Gamecocks could "break even" each season or at least qualify for a bowl. Much of that has changed in the last decade. Our baseball team won the College World Series in 2010 and 2011 and other teams have won a championship or the SEC Title. Our football team has won 11 games in each of the last 3 seasons and a preseason #4 for 2014. Our first football game is on August 28 against Texas A&M and is the first college football game of the season. Of course, Mom Paula will be there and we'll be home cheering them on. We think the chicken curse is dead!
Go Gamecocks!

Friday at the Movies
Everyone knows how much we love our treats and we've learned that whenever we "turn on" the big eyes, we can get all we want. Maybe not all we want, but more than the average kitty. MOL!

Flashback Friday with Angel Sweet Praline
We thought we'd give you a special treat today and show a video of our sister-before-us, Angel Sweet Praline. You know how much we love treats, but that's nothing compared to Sweet Praline. She'd meet Mom Paula at the door every evening and immediately begin walking to the couch to get her treats. We hope you enjoy this little flashback.
Pee ess - guess what? Mom Paula is coming home today and we're ready for her to get back!

Patiently Waiting
We're patiently waiting for Mom Paula to come home tomorrow. Wonder what we can order on the computer while she's gone.
Pee ess- Grandma Faye told on us last night because we were hiding from her when she came over to check on us. She found Brûlée in the middle of folded laundry in the guest bedroom and never did discover where Truffle was hiding. We both eventually showed up, but gave Grandma quite a fright.

Photo Hunt: Clouds
Mom Paula took this photo of the clouds when Hurricane Sandy was passing by South Carolina on October 29, 2012. The black you see in the photo are the clouds and they circled Mom Paula and were low to the horizon. The blue color in the sky was clear above the dark clouds.
On a brighter note, Mom Paula thinks we look like a couple of white fluffy clouds in a blue sky!
Pee ess: Happy Birthday to Mom Paula's sister, Dorenda! This is a photo of her with two of her woofies: Foster (RIP November 2013) and Sydney.

Friday at the Movies: Out of Reach
Mom Paula likes to tease us by putting our treats and our Cat Dancer on top of the desk. We know, we know, most of you would be up there in a flash and take off with the treats and the toy. However, we haven't quite figured out how to get up there yet, so we just sit and stare!
