Chicken Pot Pie for Kitties

We were recently given the opportunity to review Hill's® Ideal Balance™ Crafted Savory Chicken Pot Pie with Buckwheat canned food from chewy.com.
The "Crafted" canned food from Hill's Ideal Balance is made of shredded chicken in a delicious gravy, which is a new form of canned food for Hill's.  We've told you many times that Brulee prefers the shredded canned food with gravy because it's easier to eat it with her Persian mouth.  As soon as I put the canned food on the floor, Brulee claimed it as her own.

We hadn't tried any of the Hill's products before, so we were anxious to try this specially designed cat food.  According to the website, the key benefits of the Hill's Ideal Balance Crafted canned food are:
  • Keeps your cat healthy & active
  • Gluten-free source of energy for an active life, and supports healthy digestion
  • Helps keep cat’s eyes sharp and maintain healthy vision
  • Helps build muscle for healthy play, and provides a great wholesome taste
  • Provides a rich taste and builds muscle for your cat to jump & play longer
  • Perfectly Balanced Nutrition
  • Made in the USA

The food was shredded and had lots of good ingredients in it for us.  There wasn't as much gravy as Brulee usually likes, but it looked interesting to us.

Ingredients:
Chicken Broth, Chicken, Pork Liver, Carrots, Spinach, Rice Starch, Buckwheat, Chicken Fat, Egg Whites, Chicken Liver Flavor, Rice, Flaxseed, Potatoes, Potassium Alginate, Calcium Chloride, Fish Oil, Choline Chloride, Calcium Lactate, Calcium Gluconate, Green Peas, Dicalcium Phosphate, Guar Gum, Cranberries, Taurine, vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Ascorbic Acid (source of Vitamin C), Niacin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Biotin, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid), Caramel color, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Apples, Broccoli, Zucchini, minerals (Zinc Oxide, Ferrous Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Calcium Iodate), Beta-Carotene

Brulee immediately ate most of the gravy in the food, but then decided to be finicky.  Mom Paula had to tempt her by sprinkling some of their freeze-dried chicken dust on top of the food. Brulee ate most of her food then.  However, Truffle really didn't like this food, which is so unusual for her.  We know this is an excellent food for kitties, but each kitty has his/her own taste for food.  We're going to donate the remaining cans of food to one of our special human friends who rescues cats and currently has more than a dozen she is taking care of.

You can currently get a 24-can case of the Hill's Ideal Balance Crafted canned food at chewy.com for $29.43, which is a great deal.  The Crafted variety also comes in Roasted Tuna and Vegetable Medley and Simmered Salmon Chowder With Quinoa. As always, shipping is free with an order of $49+ and ships very quickly.

  3. That was a great review girls! I'm not too crazy about lots of things I can't pronounce though.

  4. Carmine and Milita have gotten quite finicky about canned food, too. They usually like pate more than shreds or bits.

  5. Girls, know what you mean. We all have our preferences. Why, I have actually eaten pate! I never would allow that till recently.

  6. Brulee looks adorable claiming her food. That is sweet of you to donate it to less fortunate kitties.

  7. I’m glad they liked the food. I’m not that found of Hills but then again the only wet food I really like is FF.

  8. Hrm, it doesn't look like the consistency we three picky kitties would like either. but isn't it nice to try out new flavors free of charge (yay!!) ?

  9. Truffles licked out the gravy and pate but left the chunky part. We will be donating the rest of ours too, which is perfectly fine :)
