Poor little sick Brulee waiting in her SleepyPod in the examining room.
Brulee was running a fever, sneezing, and breathing a little fast. The vet came in about 1 1/2 hours later and examined Brulee. The vet believes Brulee has an upper respiratory infection and when Mom Paula told her that Truffle had the eye infection in July, the vet thinks they are passing the Herpes virus back and forth, but have different symptoms. The vet was concerned about Brulee's rapid breathing and recommended tests. Even though they were expensive, Mom Paula agreed, since Brulee had the same thing about 6 months ago.
Brulee waiting on the examination table for the vet.
The x-rays and bloodwork and everything was pretty normal (a few levels were high or low, but she thought it may be stress). Brulee was given medication for the nausea, some sub-Q fluids, and sent home three days of medication with instructions to sit in a steamy bathroom and use the humidifier again. She recommended Brulee go to our regular vet Monday for followup. Mom Paula will probably take both of us to make sure we're okay. The vet recommended Mom Paula talk to our regular vet about giving us lysine to get rid of this virus. Brulee and Mom Paula got home around 3:30 AM.
We'd appreciate your purrs, prayers, and good thoughts.
Pee ess - Mom Paula is having a nerve test on her left hand today.
Poor Brulee! I am sending lots of purrs her way - I know how her flat face can make URIs more difficult to cope with. And I'm sending you some purrs too because you need them too.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is stressful isn't it! Charlie developed an URI recently after starting Prednisolone to help his IBD, unfortunately it suppressed his immune system so that he got very sick. Then he passed it on to Amber, so we had about 6 weeks with two very sick cats in the house. The steamy bathroom is a good idea, but because our bathroom is so big I wrapped Charlie is a towel burrito style, then sat him on my lap over a large bowl of boiling water with a towel over our heads to get the steam directly to him... it worked really well. :) Hope Brulee is better soon.
ReplyDeletePurrs and Headbutts to Brulee, we hope you are feeling better very soon! Xanthe, Nishi and Daeda xxx

If her nerve test isn't passed--can she blame it on Brulee cause like that would strain my human's nerves. Purrs to both of you to be better.
ReplyDeleteWe are sorry you had to go to the emergency vet. We are glad though that it is a URI and not something worse. I think the Lysine is a good idea - it has really helped Carmine and Milita get fewer URIs, and they are less severe when they do get them. Purrs and prayers <3
