New Cat Tree - Review

As part of the Chewy blogger outreach program, we received the Armarkat® Classic Cat Tree (model B2903) to review for the month of December.  Mom Paula wanted to find another smaller tree to put in one of the bedrooms for us to rest and this tree fit the bill purrfectly.
Brulee quickly claimed the cat tree as her own

The cat tree came in a large box and contained only 6 pieces to put together and included the required screws and tool to connect everything.  The instructions only showed three basic pictures for putting it together, but Mom Paula had it put together in just a few minutes.  It is a smaller tree with the following dimensions.
  • Overall dimensions:  25 x 25 x 30 inches
  • Base dimensions: 16 x 16 inches
  • House dimensions:  12 x 8 x 10 inches
  • Perch dimensions:  12 x 10 inches
  • Maximum Holding Weight:  20 lbs

Brulee peeking out from the house

We're only 7 and 8 pounds and are a lot smaller than we look (our floof makes us look twice our size).  Brulee is demonstrating that she can only put half of her body inside the house, but she thinks she's hiding from Truffle.  Too bad her long tail hanging off the top gives her away.  MOL!  This would be a purrfect cat tree for kittens, especially in a foster home environment.
Truffle demonstrated the scratching post

The posts are the purrfect size for us to stretch and scratch.  Two fuzzy balls came with the tower (one beige and one blue) to hang from underneath the top perch.  Brulee was having a blast playing, upside down, with the fuzzy ball.  Truffle immediately put her scent on the cat tree by scratching the sisal rope pole.
Brulee defending her perch on the tower

We think the photo above shows how much Brulee loved her little sky blue tower.  Truffle wanted to get on top of the tower, but Brulee became a ladycat lioness and defended her perch.  The cat tree is covered in beautiful sky blue faux fleece.  The board material is pressed wood with two poles covered by the fleece and one pole covered by the sisal rope.  The post diameter is 3.5 inches.
Truffle challenges Brulee for the top perch

As you can see from the photo above, the tree is a little small for both Truffle and Brulee to rest comfortably at the same time.  This is one reason Mom Paula has several cat trees around the house so we can try to be satisfied.  As we said earlier, we highly recommend this tree for people who take care of kittens and young cats.
Truffle claiming the top perch for herself

The Armarkat® cat tree is currently on sale at chewy.com for $40.96. There are additional Armarkat cat trees in the same sky blue color that you could purchase and mix them together in a room for the ideal cat environment.  If you purchase some additional items to total $49+, your shipping would be free and it usually arrives at your house within two days.  The customer service at chewy.com is outstanding.

Secret Paws

It's time to share our Secret Paws package with everyone.  Since we host the Secret Paws activity each year, we really aren't surprised who is our Secret Paw when the package arrives, but we always look forward to seeing what is in the package.  We do use a random name generator, so the assignments are still a surprise in the planning stages.  It's a very exciting time when that special package arrives at our front door.
Our Secret Paws package

Everyone who knows us (and Mom Paula) know that we are Southern ladycats who like the finer things in life, especially bling.  Our Secret Paws knew exactly what we liked with the beautiful pink bag with bling on it that said we were "fabulous."
Brulee thinks this bag fits her purrfectly

Even though we knew that our Secret Paw was those beautiful cats from Zee & Zoey's Cat Chronicles and their Mom Deb, there was no doubt when we opened the box because everything was wrapped in leopard print tissue paper with the touch of pink ribbons.
Our Secret Paws presents wrapped in the "signature" leopard print from Zee & Zoey's Cat Chronicles

One of the first items Brulee searched out was the packages of silvervine.  We just recently had our first silvervine toy in our meowbox (don't forget to enter for a chance to win your own box) and Truffle claimed that toy.  Brulee immediately bit into the silvervine package.  Usually Brulee is the sweet and calm ladycat, but the silvervine turned her into a wildcat.  She began attacking Truffle, so Mom Paula put the silvervine aside until she can put it into a toy for us.  Thank you kitties from Zee & Zoey's Cat Chronicles' kitties for allowing us the luxury of pure silvervine!
Brulee biting into the silvervine package while Truffle looks on

We received special handmade pink leopard toys that had catnip, feathers, and ribbon which are three of our favorite things.  Truffle loved the pink heart and played with it for a long time.  We also received the Orijen treats, the CatDancer, some fuzzy balls and some homemade mice.
Truffle enjoying her heart toy while Brulee guards everything else.

Mom Paula also received a special handmade ornament that she'll definitely put on our Christmas tree. She was happy to receive the book, Purr Prints of the Heart by Deb Barnes.  She'd heard a lot of positive comments about the book, but hadn't had the opportunity to purchase it yet.  She said she's going to read it while she's home over the holidays.
Brulee thinks the gifts for Mom Paula are pretty special (she also likes the handmade heart cat toy)

Thank you so much Deb Barnes and the kitties from Zee & Zoey's Cat Chronicles for all of our Secret Paws gifts.  We appreciate the thoughtful and special gifts we received.  You can read and see more exciting Secret Paws reveals at the Secret Paws 2015 webpage.  Don't forget to post about your Secret Paws package on the Secret Paws page or your own so everyone can see how fun this annual activity can be.

The Day After Christmas

We hope all of our furriends had a wonderful Christmas Day and Happy holiday season.  Many of you guessed correctly who our Secret Paw was when we showed the second hint of the leopard tissue paper.  It was Deb and those beautiful kitties from Zee & Zoey's Cat Chronicles.
Truffle and Brulee enjoying their Secret Paws stuff

We'll share more about our Secret Paws stuff later.  Mom Paula barely had time to let us open our package because our Grandpa Paul was rushed to the hospital this week and was in kidney failure. Mom Paula was very scared, but they were able to lower his potassium and his kidneys are okay.  He came home late yesterday afternoon, but we were very happy he made it home for Christmas.

Secret Paws Posts

Please don't forget to post about your Secret Paws, either on your own blog or the Secret Paws 2015 blog.  We are visiting everyone this week to see who has received their package and noting it on a spreadsheet.  Please don't worry if you haven't received your package  yet because sometimes they don't arrive until the end of the year with the postage situation.

Meowbox Review and Giveaway

Truffle presenting the meowbox

Subscriptions for products have been around for a long time.  Mom Paula remembers getting recipe cards, books, makeup, and other items through a subscription service. Now, there is a subscription service specifically for cats. The meowbox is a monthly subscription box specifically designed for us kitties.  It's loaded with fun toys and yummy goodies and it's delivered to your door!  What makes this subscription unique is that all of the edible treats are made in Canada or the United States.  Some of the items come from small business and may include well-made handcrafted toys and treats.  Your humans also have the option to receive the meowbox with no edible items if there are picky kitties or those with special dietary restrictions in your home.  The food is replaced with more toys and goodies.
Brulee couldn't wait to get into the meowbox.  Notice the contents were sealed with a feather!

We received an email when the meowbox was shipped to us.  What was so special about this email is that with every meowbox you buy, there is a promotion called "One Box Can" and meowbox gives a can of food to a shelter cat, on your behalf.  The email included a link to track the item(s) that were sent to a shelter.  We were excited to discover that our recipient is the Central Oklahoma Humane Society.  Our package hasn't arrived yet, but we're sure it will be there soon!  This is a cat subscription box that is really special.  The meowbox is personalized by hand with the names of the kitties who live in the household.
Each meowbox comes with a Goodies Guide

Truffle and Brulee were so excited about their meowbox that Mom Paula couldn't put any of the items out for a great photograph because one of us always had our head inside the box or was walking away with one of the items.  We received the following items in the December meowbox
  • Bavarian Cat Toy - Festive Holiday Pillow Toy.  This toy is filled with valerian.  We must admit that this was the first time we'd tried valerian and it was Truffle's favorite.
  • Pet Candy - Catnip Penny Candy. These candy-shaped toys were filled with farm-grown fresh catnip.
  • Ruff and Whiskerz - Wildlife Rodentz.  This is a realistic looking creature that kitties love to chase.  It is designed and packaged using recycled materials.
  • Pet Greens - Semi-Moist Trout Treats.  Each treat contains real meat as the first ingredient plus the fish oil provides nourishing Omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Petstages - Go Buggy.  This toy is shaped like a bug and has a strong scent we kitties love.  It's shaped so to make it easy for us to bat and carry.  This was the first toy Brulee played with.
  • Zen Clipper - Discount Card.  There was a card included to receive a $3.95 discount on the Zen Clippers.  We ordered these clippers and can't wait to try them out.

Brulee immediately claimed the box as her own

Subscriptions for the meowbox can be purchased for one month for $32.95, 3 months for $27.95 ($83.85 upfront), or 6 months for $22.95 ($137.70 upfront).  Shipping is free and can be shipped to Canada, the US, or the UK.  Each box will include 5-7 items.
Truffle and Brulee loved the items in the meowbox so much that Mom Paula had to hold it in her hand to get a photography.

Loved and Pampered

A few weeks ago, Mom Paula was asked to participate in a project for Hallmark™ cards. Our friend, Lisa Richman from A Tonk's Tail...er, Tale... created an incredible video and it was released December 16. You may recognize several other humans, woofies, and kitties that were involved. Mom Paula was honored and thrilled to be a part of this beautiful message. (She can be heard saying, “Every cat deserves to be loved and pampered.”)

We admit, we know we are very loved and pampered and we truly wish that every dog and cat out there could experience the same home environment we have.  Mom Paula would sacrifice for herself in order to make sure we are well cared for.  How nice it would be for all to experience the same.

Sunday Selfie

Can you believe it's almost Christmas?!?  It's cold here in SC this weekend, but it's supposed to be in the 70s on Christmas Day. Brulee decided she'd actually pose for her Sunday Selfie this week instead of doing an Easy Sunday Selfie.

Caturday Art

We went back to pho.to.com for our Caturday Art post today.  We liked the puzzle effect, so showed Truffle reaching for a treat.  We wondered how many of the humans out there liked to do puzzles and would enjoy putting this one together with all the white and silver floof.

We've received our Secret Paws package and we are very excited to tell you who it is and what we got, but Mom Paula won't let us open it yet.  We hope everyone has sent their packages now and are starting to receive theirs.  Don't forget to post about your Secret Paws on the website.

Special thank you to everyone who is purring and praying for Mom Paula's nephew, Russell.  He is 32 years old and had a stroke last weekend.

The Force is Strong with These Two

Bet you can't guess where Mom Paula is going today!
Truffle with Mom Paula's Luke Skywalker and Yoda action figure

Mom Paula is old enough to remember standing in line for the very first Star Wars movie.  She's seen all of the movies multiple times in the theater and has the DVDs at home.  One day she say she will be able to afford the BluRay versions.  So, she is on annual leave from work until January 4 and she purchased her ticket to see the new Star Wars movie around lunchtime today.  You'll notice the Luke Skywalker action figure in the photo above with Truffle and below with Brulee.  Here's the story behind the action figure.
The Force is strong with this one Young Skywalker
Mom Paula taught middle school mathematics for 17 years prior to being a college professor.  She was mentoring a new mathematics teacher back in the early 90s and they became close friends.  Mom Paula was always going to LuAnn's classroom to offer assistance.  One day, one of LuAnn's students asked her why Mom Paula kept coming to her classroom.  LuAnn explained that Mom Paula was giving her advice and assistance to help her become a great teacher.  The student replied, "Oh, like Yoda."  A couple of years later, Mom Paula turned 40 (while she was working on her Ph.D) and Grandma Faye had a surprise birthday party for her.  LuAnn came to the party and gave her the Luke Skywalker with Yoda action figure to honor all of the advice and mentoring from Mom Paula.  This figurine stays in our home office.

May the Force be with you today and always!

First Time Pet Mom at 70+ and #ShedHappens

Our Grandma Faye had never had a pet her entire life until Bandit came into her life 7 years ago. Grandma Faye is one of those "neat freaks" who would always talk about Mom Paula's cats and all the "hair" that would get all over everything.  Grandma Faye never understood the bond Mom Paula had with Sweet Praline and us until she adopted her own furchild. Grandma Faye has always used Swiffer® products to clean the dust in her house and now that Bandit is living with her, she appreciates the Swiffer products even more.  In the years Bandit has lived with her, Grandma Faye now spends more time playing with Bandit and less time cleaning.

Bandit and Grandma Faye quickly developed a fur-ever friendship

A few weeks ago, we told you about Swiffer® and Bark & Co. teaming up in a promotional campaign to help more children experience that special love through pet adoption and allowing parents more time to play than clean up pet-related messes. BarkBox and Swiffer are helping make sure cleaning concerns are never an obstacle when bringing your child's or a 70+ year old special lady's first pet.

@BarkBox and @Swiffer are teaming up to make sure cleaning concerns are never an obstacle when bringing your child's first pet home.  Through December, new pup parents who adopt from partnering shelters will get a free Welcome Home kit packed with goodies and cleaning supplies.  Because with any furry family member...#Shed Happens.
Bandit presents the Welcome Home Kit from Swiffer and BarkBox.

The Welcome Home Kit contains the following items for parents of new fur children.

  • A collection of BarkBox goodies
  • Swiffer Sweeper Starter Kit
  • Swiffer Sweeper Dry Refill Kit
  • Swiffer Duster
  • Febreze product coupon
  • Bark Toy and treats
  • Fresh Chicken Recipe Food sample and food coupon
  • Welcome Home Guide, featuring information from child development expert, Dr. Aubrey Fine, on the benefits of a pet for children.

We were happy to share a Welcome Home Kit with Grandma Faye and Bandit to show them how happy we are that Grandma Faye has discovered the joys of being owned by a fur child and now worries less about the mess he can make.  And believe us, he can make a big mess.  We sent Mom Paula to our local rescue, Pawmetto Lifeline, to present a Welcome Home Kit for a future pet parent.  Unfortunately, no one was adopting a dog during the time Mom Paula was there, but she was able to meet a very friendly dog, Joanie, who is waiting for her forever home.  You can see Joanie beside Mom Paula as she presents the box to Elizabeth Childers from Pawmetto Lifeline for a future pet parent.

We know the value of children and pets growing up together.  Mom Paula grew up with dogs the first 20 years of her life and cats the past 30+ years.  We wish you could see the special bond that has developed between Grandma Faye and Bandit and think it's amazing because Grandma Faye never had a pet before. We hope many pets (both dogs and cats) will find their forever homes over the holiday and parents and children can enjoy their time with them because Swiffer realizes that #ShedHappens.

We shipped our Secret Paws package to a very special group of kitties on Friday.  We did follow our own advice and shipped it through Priority Mail and have a tracking number.  We think we may have gone a little overboard with our items, but we had a few extra items from some reviews that we wanted to share with these special kitties.

If you're participating in Secret Paws, be sure to accept the invite to be a contributing author on the Secret Paws 2015 website.  There are about 17 kitties who haven't responded to the email yet.  We used the email addresses you included in the Secret Paws information.

Caturday Art

We haven't used Pho.to in a long time and when we went to the website last night, they had changed the layout and we were confused at first.  However, we were very excited to find there were a lot of new designs to work with.  For today's artwork, we took a photo of Truffle and Brulee on the dining table that was a little out of focus and use the "kaleidoscope" theme and were very pleased with the results.

The interesting thing is that Truffle was the dominate kitty in the original photo and Brulee was in the background, but the kaleidoscope put Brulee in the center with a touch of Truffle in the corners.  Here's the original photo.  Huge difference, isn't it?

Huge Catit® Oasis Giveaway

It's finally time!  Last week we shared a photo of Truffle guarding a huge box that was on our front porch right before Thanksgiving!  Mom Paula had company and was out of town, so we didn't get a chance to get into it until this week.  This post is a little longer than usual, but we want to show you everything we received and what you can win!
Truffle guarding the huge box we received

Imagine our surprise when Mom Paula pulled out a bunch of smaller boxes and a book from the huge box.  The boxes themselves not only contain sever items from Catit® but are designed so your human can cut out holes in the boxes for a great toyland in themselves.
Brulee beside all of the small boxes there were inside the large box

Mom Paula was very impressed when she saw the "soon-to-be" released items from Catit® at BlogPaws and was thrilled to be asked to review the new Catit Oasis Kit.

The Catit Oasis Kit includes the following:
  • Magic Blue Cartridge
  • Flower Fountain
  • Multi Feeder
  • Senses 2.0 Wellness Center
  • Senses 2.0 Super Circuit
  • Senses 2.0 Grass Planter
  • Senses 2.0 Cat Grass Kit
  • Senses 2.0 Scratcher
  • Pure - Cat Portraits, Photography Book

Brulee with the "feeding" products

The Cat Grass Planter Kit has a rubber mat to help it stay in place and comes with three sets of seed and 3 bags of vermiculite.  Mom Paula couldn't get a photo with the grass seed because Truffle and Brulee kept trying to eat the plastic, but there is enough seed to keep us satisfied for a long time.  Mom Paula promises us that she will plant the grass seed while she is on her holiday vacation. The Flower Fountain is really cool because there are three different ways you can set it up to drink from.  There is a great video from Catit showing this. The Multi Feeder is very unique because you can put wet food on the top where it is whisker stress free and there is a compartment where kibble (or treats) can be placed so we can "fish" out a treat when we want it.
Brulee is trying to figure out the Scratcher

The Senses 2.0 Scratcher is made with individual cardboard discs that can be built into countless of different set-ups by flipping, rotating and restacking.  The cardboard discs stay in place (don't rotate while scratching) because the hole is a square to put on the post. Mom Paula chose to put the discs in an alternating pattern.  We think we'd rather have it all going in one direction, which can be easily accomplished by removing the discs and rotating and flipping them.
Truffle loved the Wellness Center

The Catit Senses 2.0 Wellness Center  was Truffle's favorite item in the Catit Oasis Kit. It combines the old Massage Center with a some smart upgrades that are based on extensive field research and direct user feedback. The product is now bigger, better and more versatile than ever!  The Catit Senses 2.0 Wellness Center was designed to be the ultimate relaxation spot. The Wellness Center includes a wide variety of brushes, textures and massage ridges to help us relax and groom ourselves. Both Truffle and Brulee loved the padded cushion that stays in place through velcro adhesive strips on the bottom.  You can see all of the parts of the Wellness Center and a video by clicking on the link at the beginning of this paragraph.
Brulee and Truffle relaxing with the items in the Catit Oasis Kit

We received a Catit Circuit last year from one of our Secret Kitties in the Cat Scouts and love it.  The Catit Oasis Kit includes the new Senses 2.0 Super Circuit.  The new Senses 2.0 Circuits are longer and include a straight track that allows compatibility with the wider, more stable Senses 2.0 product bases. This expansion adds a lot of variety and can even be combined with the classic blue circuits!  We think we need a whole room to ourselves to set up our Circuits. There are 12 pieces that can be arranged in over 100 different shapes to keep us entertained.

Also included in the Catit Oasis Kit is the Magic Blue.  This is the item that Mom Paula was the most excited about.  It is a non-toxic litter box filter that absorbs and retains up to 80% of ammonia, which is the most hazardous and pungent component of cat urine.

Did you know that our sense of smell is almost 15 times stronger than our humans.  You can just imagine how bad our litter boxes can smell to us, especially when the humans can detect the odor.  Using Catit Magic Blue in combination with regular scooping and cleaning can result in better air quality for everyone in the house.
Truffle (and Brulee behind the Scratcher) demonstrate everything that came in our Catit Oasis Kit.

An added bonus with the Catit Oasis is the book, Pure, cat portraits by Lucas.  This beautiful 190-page full-color book has high-quality photographs of cat.  The title "Pure" reflects the white background so the cats are shown in their "purest" form and it's also a pun on cats' purr.  This book is free when you purchase the complete Catit Oasis Kit.  For a limited time, the kit is on sale for $129.99 (normal $155.93).  We know this book will have a special place in our house on the coffee table.  This kit would be a wonderful gift for any home with cats.

Giveaway

We're excited to announce that the humans at Catit have been generous in offering one of our lucky U.S. or Canadian readers their very own Oasis kit (minus the book).  Enter by leaving a comment and your email address in the rafflecopter below for a chance to win.  Additional chances to win are available once the comment and email address are completed. You must be 18 years old to enter and the giveaway ends at 12/16/15 at midnight.  Good luck!
