VetriSCIENCE Perio Plus Feline Bites #ChewyInfluencer

By now, we're sure everyone knows that February was Dental Health Month.  Even though this month is important to bring awareness about dental health for felines (and woofies), dental health is a year-round issue for our fur children.  Our vet told Mom Paula on our last visit that it would be probably be time for a cleaning at our 5-year visit.  In the meantime, we can use all the help we can to keep our teeth clean and healthy.
Brulee investigating the new bag of dental bites.
As part of the Chewy Influencer group, we received a bag of VetriSCIENCE® Perio Plus Feline Bites to sample and review for the month of February.  These treats are designed to give each day to support dental health between cleanings, promote plaque control, freshen breath, and aid in healthy gums and clean teeth.
Brulee tasting the bite
The description of the bites are that they are tiny bites that have two delicious layers that represent a targeted and hassle-free delivery system to support dental health between cleanings for cats.  As you can see from the photo above, the bites are a little larger than we expected.  We liked the taste immediately, but had a little trouble eating them easily.  Mom Paula broke them in half and they were much easier for us to eat and we really liked the taste.
Brulee likes the taste of the dental bites
The outer layer of the Period-Plus Feline Bites promotes dental cleansing, plaque control and fresh breath.  The inner core supports overall oral health, including gum tissue integrity and fresh breath. The instructions state that we can have two bites a day to help us maintain our dental health in between vet visits.  We haven't eaten the bites long enough to know if they have had a positive impact on our dental health, but we did like the taste and will continue to eat them.

The VetriSCIENCE Perio Plus Feline Bites are currently on sale at chewy.com $5.09 (list price = $8.28).  There are 60 bites per bag, so the treats should last a month when eating two a day.  You can save an extra 5% if you choose "Autoship" for the bites.  If you purchase the bites with other cat supplies and food, you can get free 1-2 day shipping with orders that total $49+.  Chewy.com has excellent customer service and we highly recommend shopping with them.

Would you believe that Mom Paula is a sexagenarian today?  We don't really know what that word means, but we think it means she is old!!!  We want to wish her a very special birthday and are very happy that she will be home tonight!

Can you tell that Brulee isn't very happy?  Mom Paula has to leave today to attend a conference for work and none of us are happy (even Mom Paula).  We do hear rumors that Mom Paula may meet some cat blogging humans while she's away and that's exciting, but we'll miss her and she's already missing us.

Truffle and Mom Paula have always had that special bond

It's National Love Your Pet Day, so we took a slightly out of focus photo of Truffle and Mom Paula and used various filters to soften it and turn it black and white.  We added some pink hearts and a frame for our Caturday artwork.  We used PicMonkey today.

Love is In the Air #LoveYourPetEveryday

Mom Paula loves Brulee

Did you know that tomorrow, February 20, is National Love Your Pet Day?  We think it's great that someone has set aside a special day to remind people to love their pets, but we're pleased to tell you that we know that we are loved everyday by Mom Paula!  Many people may show love for their pets through extra attention, treats, pampering, and all the attention their fur children can handle on this special day but we won't know the day is any different because we get this type of attention each and every day.  Mom Paula has had a lot of health issues since we came to live with her 4 years ago, but you'd never know it based on the time and attention we receive.  She makes sure we have soft blankets to sleep on, healthy and tasty treats to eat, interactive toys to play with, and a high quality food to eat.
Mom Paula is thankful both of her girls are home!

Chicken Soup for the Soul® also believes every day is Love Your Pet Day! They've developed a line of wholesome pet food and has the philosophy that a wholesome pet food can help humans turn moments with their furchildren into stories because they know that when you love your pets, every moment matters. Chicken Soup for the Soul is a family owned and operated business that offers a wholesome and balanced, super-premium pet food to health-conscious customers. Both the dry and wet food products are holistic in nature and are made from only the finest ingredients: real meat as the first ingredients, fruits, vegetables, and herbs. There is no corn, wheat, soy, artificial coloring, flavoring or preservatives. All of the products are made in the USA.  You can find the nearest pet store that carries their food by visiting the store locator and typing in your location.

Brulee is waiting for Mom Paula to read her some stories from the latest book while she eats dinner.

Chicken Soup does a lot more than provide a premium and nutritious pet food.  They believe food is about comfort, love and appreciation and they show this in numerous ways. A portion of all proceeds from the sale of their pet food goes to the Humpty Dumpty Institution to help support organizations that feed and care for animals in shelters.  The royalties from their new books, Chicken Soup for the Soul:  My Very Good, Very Bad Cat (there's one about dogs, too) will go to the American Humane Association.  They feature shelter pets from a local shelter and ones that have recently found their forever homes (stories about these pets can be found on the back of the packages).  They are the official dog food sponsor for the American Humane Association's Hero Dog Awards, as well as a sponsor of the Therapy Dog category.

Tips for Getting the Best Sleep by Morris the Cat - Part 3 and Giveaway

We're happy to share the final edition of Morris the Cat's advice column where he'll reveal the much need-to-know information on how to release your inner cat and get the best night's sleep of  your life.
Brulee knew as a kitten how to get a good night's sleep (November 2011)

Morris is an iconic spokescat and star of over 50 9Lives cat food commercials from the 1970s onward.  He has a prolific career envied by many of the Internet cat sensations of today and is still going strong! The secret to his longevity? Well, for one, the fact that he eats 9Lives. But more importantly, he has a disciplined sleep regimen – racking up about 140 hours per week!

Morris wants to teach YOU the tricks of the trade and give you all the tools you need, so he's hosting a giveaway on his Live Well & Prospurr site to win a Morris-shaped plush bed that's big enough for you AND your cat to snuggle up on.

Dear Morris Advice Column

Dear Morris,

My cat and I are BFFs. We do everything together – play, eat, snuggle – we make a purrfect team. But in the bedroom, I prefer to have my space. My cat, on the other hand, thinks there's no better place to sleep than right on my head! Why does she do this? I'm not all that fun when I'm sleeping.

Tired Tails

Truffle and Brulee sleep as close to Mom Paula as they can at night

Dear Tired Tails,

You have been bestowed a great honor. As cats, we don't always wear our hearts on our paws, but one tell-tail sign we love and trust you is when we choose to make YOU our bed. Plus, you're warm. And getting our warmth from you helps us to conserve our own energy for more important things like eating. The rhythm of your breath also creates a calming effect and the curve of your face, stomach, or legs perfectly forms to our bodies. Basically, you're like a waterbed, heated blanket, and memory foam all in one! So the next time your cat goes to curl up on you, think of it as a compliment and drift off to sleep knowing you are loved... and you're very comfortable.

Kitty Hugs,

We'd like to thank Morris the Cat for his wonderful nighttime tips!  For more information on Morris' mission to help cats and humans live well – including his initiative to donate one million 9Lives meals to rescue kitties – check out his Live Well & Prospurr website. And while you're there, enter to win the limited-edition, human-sized Morris the Cat plush bed along with a year's supply of 9Lives!

One of our lucky readers has the opportunity to win a Happy Kitty Kit from 9Lives. The giveaway includes the three items in the Rafflecopter widget below.  The giveaway is open to US residents 18+ years old.  The giveaway will run from Thursday, February 18 through Thursday, February 25 at 11:59 PM ET.  One (1) winner will be randomly selected by Rafflecopter and notified by email.  The winner will have 48 hours to claim his/her prize. Tips for Getting the Best Sleep by Morris the Cat - Part 2

We're back with our special guest, Morris the Cat, to give advice to our humans about how to sleep like a pro.  Everyone knows the best sleepers are kitties.  After all, we tend to sleep up to 140 hours a week, which is 3.5 times the typical 9-5 workday.
Truffle knows how to catch some Zzzzzzzs while everyone around her is working.

Morris is giving our readers a chance to win a human-sized bed in the shape of Morris himself to help in the quest to catch more Zzzzs.  After all, doesn't everyone sleep better when they are snuggled up next to a cat?  Have your humans visit his Live Well & Prospurr website to enter and to check out his video with more sleeping tips.

Dear Morris Advice Column

We continue today with questions to Morris about getting better sleep.
Dear Morris,

I'm a cat but as you know, even animals have 'spirit animals.' Mine is an owl – a night owl to be exact. I love to play "catch the speck of dust" or "chase your tail in the middle of the bed" into the wee hours of the morning. My humans have no idea what they're missing out on. They just lay there snoring and swat at me when I come too close. How can I make them see that daytime is lame, and the real party happens under stars (the stick-on, glow-in-the-dark kind)?

Yours truly,
Hyper Harry
Dear Hyper Harry,

Sadly, this is a case you may not win. Humans need their sleep at night. You get to spend all day snoozing and they only get a few precious hours when the sun goes down. Your humans can, however, make sure that they understand why it is you're pouncing about and provide things to make nighttime more fun. For instance, your humans could consider getting a kitty condo or put out bags or boxes for you to explore. For extra credit, they can hide treats around the house so you can go on a midnight scavenger hunt. Or, if you're really lucky, they'll bring home a kitty best friend for you to play with whenever you please. Other cats might be up at night because they get hungry, in which case their humans could try an automatic food dispenser to provide small meals throughout the night. Remember, the more you let your humans sleep at night, the more energy they'll have to play with you during the day!

Kitty hugs,

We think these are some great nighttime tips from Morris!  We're lucky that we have each other to play with at night when Mom Paula is asleep, but sometimes we get a little too aggressive and wake her up. We love to 'rassle with each other, especially at night.  It may start out as a simple grooming session, but always ends up with some rough housing.

You can read Morris' first advice column here.  Thanks for the pawesome nighttime tips, Morris! Read Morris' first advice column here. Plus, don't forget to check back for the last installment of "Dear Morris," and in the meantime, check out his website to see how you can live as well as a cat and enter the giveaway!  We have a special surprise tomorrow for an exciting giveaway from 9Lives for our readers.  In the meantime, Truffle thinks she'll take another nap.

Tips for Getting the Best Sleep by Morris the Cat - Part 1

If anyone knows about sleep, it's us kitties.  We can sleep any time of the day and anywhere.  This week, we have a special guest helping us post about the importance of getting sleep and sharing some advice to humans on how to get the rest they need.
Brulee knows how to relax!

We think humans could learn a lot from us kitties on how to relax.  We're only 4 years old, so we don't have the experience of getting the best sleep as Morris the Cat.  For those of you who don't know him, Morris is the iconic spokescat for 9Lives cat food and has starred in over 50 commercials. Don't you know that all of that work makes for a tired kitty.  We're sure he has the best ways to catch a quick catnap between those commercials.

Morris has taken time out of his busy schedule to answer some questions about the "impurrtance" of sleep.  He's also offering his fans the chance to win a Morris-shaped, human-sized plush bed and a year's supply of 9Lives cat food.  Visit his Live Well & Prospurr website to enter.

Dear Morris Advice Column

Dear Morris,

I've been experiencing difficulties with falling asleep, tossing and turning once my head hits the pillow.  I don't get it because I feel tired all day at work; then I come home, brush my teeth, flip on the TV, and just... lie there.  I'm hoping I can learn from the expert.  Morris, what am I doing wrong?

Sleepless in San Fur-nando (We think this is Mom Paula trying to write in incognito).

Dear Sleepless in San Fur-nando,

Your case, unfortunately, is not all uncommon.  When you're going all day long at the speed of a cheetah, it's no wonder your mind darts around like a red laser dot at bedtime.  Luckily, as a cat, I spend up to 140 hours per week sleeping and I can tell you there is hope!  For starters, as a cat, I notice you mentioned turning on the TV before bed.  Cats don't watch TV - this is partly because the majority of us can't speak English that well, but mostly because it interferes with our snooze time. Scientifically speaking, the 'glow' emitted by an electronic screen enters the brain and slows the release of melatonin, the hormone that helps us sleep.  So next time you want to turn on the tube before bed, try counting sheep instead - or better yet, mice!

Kitty hugs,

Brulee knows how to relax and helps Mom Paula sleep with her comforting purrs

We think Morris the Cat is pretty smart!  Who needs the TV or any other electronic device when you have a purring kitty around to show you how it's done.  After getting a good night's rest, come back for our next edition of "Dear Morris" and don't forget to check out his Live Well & Prospurr website to enter the giveaway and learn how you can help Morris feed hungry kitties with just the click of the mouse.

We'll have an exciting giveaway for our readers this week, thanks to Morris and the nice people from 9Lives, so be sure to come back for more advice from Morris and to enter the giveaway.

Mom Paula tried to get a photo of both of us together with some Valentine's goodies, but we didn't cooperate too well.  Either one of us had our eyes closed or the other was biting the hearts in the arrangement.  We finally "halfway" posed for this Valentine's photos for our Sunday Selfie.  We hope everyone has a wonderful day with their loved ones.

Caturday Art

We went to photofacefun.com today for our Caturday Art graphic.  The original photo was a little blurry because Mom Paula was using her cell phone in a darkened room when she was so sick a couple of weeks ago.  Brulee was very sensitive to Mom Paula's illness and stayed very close to her.  In this photo, Brulee was pressing as close as she could against Mom Paula's chest.
Original Photo of Brulee without editing

We use the pastel artist theme to the original photo and were amazed with the results.  We then went to PicMonkey and attached a frame and our watermark.  We think this is a very special photo to celebrate the love Brulee has for Mom Paula this Valentine's Day weekend.

Clean Tushees - Review and Giveaway

We kitties are known for taking lots of baths (all day long) to keep clean.  However, there are times that incidents occur to cause us to get a little dirtier than normal, which requires a bath.  We do not like baths!  Mom Paula says she needs to wear armor in order to give us a bath when we have a little accident or get dirty.  Imagine Mom Paula's relief to receive Quick Bath and Tushee Wipe Quick Bath wipes from International Veterinary Sciences.
Truffle and Brulee checking out the packages of wipes

The Quick Bath wipes are extra thick wipes that are formulated with effective cleaners that remove bacteria and odors from our skin.  They contain Vitamins A & E and Aloe Vera, which not only leaves us clean and shiny, but promotes an overall health skin and coat.  Quick Bath wipes are pH neutral and alcohol free.  One of the first things we noticed was how thick and large the wipes were.
The wipes are almost bigger than Truffle

The wipes are 5" x 10" in size and are pre-moistened.  The Quick Bath wipes come in separate formulas for cats and dogs and each package contains 10 wipes.  The cat wipes are safe for daily use on cats and other small animals.  The Quick Bath wipes can be used to remove loose dirt, dander, and hair or to freshen us up.  We have so much fur that we couldn't use them to give us a bath if we really got dirty, but they are great for when our faces get dirty from eating delicious stinky goodness or if we step into something we shouldn't.
Truffle can't believe this came from her tushee!

We also received the Tushee Wipe Quick Bath for dogs, cats, & other small animals.  The Tushee Wipe towels contain Aloe Vera, vitamin A, and vitamin E and are biodegradable.  These wipes are safe to use every day.  Since we do have lots of fur, we tend to get stuff stuck to our backsides.  The Tushee Wipe towels help neutralize anal fluid odors, reduce transfer of fecal matter, and eliminate bottom area pet stains.  We don't like anyone messing with our bottoms, but Truffle allowed Mom Paula to clean her tushee to show how well the wipes clean.  As you can see from the photo above, it did a great job.  Truffle refused to show her tushee to you!

The Quick Bath for Cats and Tushee Wipe Quick Bath wipes are made in the U.S.A, formulated and packaged in state-of-the-art pharmaceutical FDA & GMP certified facilities in order to achieve the highest standards.  Each product from International Veterinary Sciences is veterinarian approved. The wipes are available at numerous pet supply companies and on Amazon and are reasonably priced. We highly recommend these wipes for those quick clean-ups when a full bath isn't needed.

International Veterinary Sciences is allowing us to host a giveaway to one of our lucky readers for a package of the Quick Bath Wipes and the Tushee wipes .  The giveaway is open to residents in the US (void where prohibited by law), ages 18+, no P.O. boxes, and ends February 19, 2016 at 11:59 ET.  To enter, just fill out the Rafflecopter form below.  Good luck!

Throw Back Thursday

Don't you just love this photo of Truffle when she was 5 weeks old?  Truffle hadn't picked Mom Paula yet, but she was reaching out to her through this photo that Mom Terri sent her to say, "I'm yours."  Mom Paula had lost Sweet Praline two months earlier and was still depressed, but this photo brought some laughter and a smile to her heart so that she was ready to open it up to another fur child.  Two weeks later, Mom Paula visited and Truffle immediately picked her.  It was two more months before Truffle could come live with Mom Paula permanently, but the bond was already there!
