Throw Back Thursday - Baby Brulee

This was the last time I visited Brulee before she came to live with Truffle and me.  She was 8 weeks old in this photo and I knew then that she would be a very special kitty.  This was the second time I visited her at the cattery (the first time was at 6 weeks).  I tried to visit as much as possible since she was only 2 hours away.  Normally, she wouldn't have come to live with me until she was 12 weeks of age, but since Truffle had been with me for almost two months and was almost 6 months old, Mom Terri decided to  let Brulee leave a couple of weeks early so the adjustment would be easier.  Brulee came to live with us two weeks later.  Wasn't she an adorable baby kitty?

Truffle is a Little Pig

Recently we shared a review post with you about the Natural Balance® Delectable Delights® available at Chewy.com. Before Brulee could even begin eating her serving of the delicious food, Truffle had already licked her plate clean and went for Brulee's bowl.  Mom Paula let this happen long enough for a photo shoot and then she moved Truffle away so Brulee could eat.  Our petite Truffle can be a little pig!  Notice Brulee in the background waiting for Truffle to finish.  Truffle can be a little stinker when it comes to food.  MOL!

Truffle and Brulee are still doing very well with their Dr. Catsby's Bowl for Whisker Relief.  Brulee is eating more of her food and there is definitely less of a mess around the bowl.

Helping With Taxes

We spent all weekend helping Mom Paula get her taxes done.  We're happy to report, that with our help, we are getting a refund.  Once we get it back, we can help Mom Paula book her flight to BlogPaws 2016.  Paws crossed everything was done correctly and we can get the refund quickly.
Make room for us on the desk

Truffle was really impatient because Mom Paula kept removing her from the desk!  After all, today is Respect Your Cat Day and we kitties should be able to do whatever we want to!

Caturday Art

We went back to a photo editing program we hadn't used in a while for today's Caturday Art.  We used the pencil drawing effect in Ribbet.com.  The machine in front of Truffle is the cool mist humidifier that we used all Winter to help with the dryness in our house.  We think it really helped!

Kitty Stew for Finicky Kitties

Mom Paula is always trying new food for us to keep us interested and eating.  Our sister-before-us, Sweet Praline, ate basically one brand/flavor and when they changed the recipe, Mom Paula had a hard time finding a wet food that Praline would eat.  Mom Paula doesn't want that to happen to us, so we have a rotational eating plan where we eat a different brand/flavor each day.  She's very careful that she gets food that is nutritionally appropriate for us with flavors and textures that we'll eat.

Brulee loved eating the Sea Brulee flavor

This month, we received some Natural Balance Delectable Delights to try as part of the Chewy.com Blogger Outreach Program.  Brulee couldn't wait to try this food because it was named after her (or so she thinks).  There are six flavors available to satisfy any kitty's palate.  We received the Sea Brulee, which has the main ingredients of high quality tuna, whitefish, and carrots in a savory gravy.
Brulee already finished her food and Truffle shows how delicious it is

Natural Balance Delectable Delights is a complete and balanced gourmet cat stew that is grain-free and perfect for finicky eaters.  There is no corn, soy, or wheat in the food.  We've talked about Natural Balance in previous posts and are pleased that the Delectable Delights® Sea Brulee® Cat Stew Formula is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for Adult Cats.
The Delectable Delights are so delicious that Truffle and Brulee actually ate within a foot from each other.

Our regular readers know how finicky Brulee can be and also that she doesn't like to eat close to Truffle because Truffle can be a little bully when it comes to food.  The Natural Balance Delectable Delights was so delicious that Brulee didn't mind eating so close to Truffle and she even cleaned her bowl!  We definitely give this food four paws up!  This cat food will definitely be part of our rotational diet and we look forward to tasting the other flavors.

You can find the Natural Balance Delectable Delights Stew at Chewy.com.  The stew comes in a case of 12 and is currently on sale for $12.32 (list price = $18.99).  Spend $49+ and you can get free 1-2 day shipping.  The customer service at Chewy.com is excellent!

A Little Preview

We were able to try a new food from chewy.com and will share more information tomorrow.  For today, we thought we'd give you a little preview.  The food is so delicious that we actually ate side-by-side, which is really rare.  Stay tuned for a full review...

A Little Nurturing

We're a little late posting today (actually, a lot late), but Mom Paula needed a little nurturing this morning.  She was already exhausted from her trip to Global Pet Expo last week and she had some wonderful company this weekend (Aunt Vicky gave us lots of treats and loving), but last night when everyone went to the men's basketball game (2nd round NIT), Grandma Faye started feeling terrible and was sent from the arena to the hospital.  Of course Mom Paula went to the hospital to stay with Grandma Faye.  Thankfully, she was released early this morning and by the time Mom Paula got home, it was after 3:00 am.  All of us slept in this morning and Mom Paula is exhausted.  We are so thankful Aunt Vicky was Mom Paula last night to help take care of Grandma Faye and Grandpa Paul. Grandma Faye is doing okay, for which we are very grateful!.  Truffle and  Brulee gave Mom Paula a little extra loving attention this morning.

Almost Spring

Truffle looks at bird TV and notice a lot of new channels this time of the year.  There are a lot more sound effects, the sun is shining brighter, and it's about time for the "cool mist humidifier" to be turned off.  Have a wonderful day.

Can't Believe She Did This

Would you believe that Mom Paula actually ate cat food while visiting the Evanger's booth at Global Pet Expo?  We don't have the photo to prove that she was actually eating it, but she assures us that she wouldn't sit for this photo if she didn't.  We have a lot of things to share over the next few weeks about products Mom Paula found.

St. Patrick's Day

Mom Paula is so frustrated with herself because she purchased some special flowers, a place mat, and a green vase to help us with a St. Patrick's Day photo this year, but she forgot about it and didn't have time to take our photo before leaving for Global Pet Expo.  So, we thought we'd help her out and use one of our favorite online programs and set up a special St. Patrick's Day graphic.  We think St. Patrick's Day is meant for us because of our green eyes.

You're Not Leaving

Mom Paula thinks she's tricking us by no longer having the red bag on wheels.  Truffle is on to her tricks and is making sure Mom Paula can't leave again (she was just gone two weeks ago).
Truffle discovers a new bag on wheels

Mom Paula is going to Global Pet Expo for a few days.  We hear there are wall to wall pet companies sharing all of their wonderful products.  This is Mom Paula's first time going, so she's pretty excited. Once again, Grandma Faye will be watching over us.  We also hear that Mom Paula may be able to meet up with some of our cat and dog blogging friends.

Tea for Two with WeRuVa Cat Litter #CatTeaPotty

We've been a fan of WeRuVa since we were kittens and had our first taste of Paw Lickin' Chicken. Over the past four years, we've sampled almost every variety and flavor of their food and we must say that we are fans. We live in the South and everyone knows that we Southerners love iced tea (Well, the humans do)! Imagine our surprise when we discovered that WeRuVa® has developed a cat litter made from Green Tea and Hinoki Wood.

WeRuVa is a family owned, natural pet food company that is named after and inspired by three rescue cats Webster, Rudi, and Vanessa.  Nick and Stacey Forman wanted to make cat food that was of the highest standard possible for their three cats.  They used the same passion to create a unique cat litter.  The first thing you notice about the WeRuVa It's a Tea Potty! Cat Litter is its bright packaging and the aromatic fresh smell!  Gone is the dust of other litters and in its place is a natural cat litter made with Hinoki Wood and Green Tea.  We've tried several litter products in our short 4 years, but there is always that smell of "litter."  Mom Paula has become very sensitive to dust lately and she's always concerned that visitors will notice the smells of our litter boxes, so she was interested in trying this litter.
Truffle checking out the appealing smell of the WeRuVa cat litter.
Truffle sniffing out the new litter

When Mom Paula got her first cat at 20 years old, she was determined that the cat would stay inside for her safety.  Muff lived to be almost 19 years old, but there was always the battle of litter box odors.  That battle continued when Sweet Praline came to live with her 20 years ago.  She tried just about every litter that was on the market, but they all had that "smell" when the box/bag was opened and it was difficult to cover odors we had to use the facilities.  She's since discovered that bacteria is usually the culprit to litter box odors.  Hinoki Wood and Green Tea team up to suppress the bacteria and odor naturally.  How does this work?  Hinoki Wood has a characteristic that naturally curbs humidity and Green Tea contains catechins.  They work together to suppress the growth of mold and bacteria, which aids in odor control.  This litter is clay and grain-free and contains no corn or wheat (common culprits of cat allergens).  The WeRuVa It's a Tea Potty! Cat litter is sustainable because of the use of salvaged by-products from other industries such and piano and construction industries. WeRuVa plants a new tree for every tree that is used in the making of their cat litter.

Can a ladycat get a little privacy?

We already had two litter boxes in our house that we use on a regular basis.  When we received the WeRuVa cat litter, Mom Paula chose to put it in a new box and let us choose if and when we'd use it. We'd tried new litters in the past with the "mix" method and would use the mixed litter, but once it was in a box by itself, we'd ignore it.  Truffle was sure to let Mom Paula know she didn't like the change in her kitty powder room.  The first few days the litter was out, we would sniff it, but not use it.  After a couple of weeks, Brulee decided she'd give it a try and she now prefers this litter.  Mom Paula is amazed because she cannot detect odors from the litter box with the WeRuVa Cat Litter. The litter is refreshing, but not overpowering.  The litter is a different texture from traditional litter and you may need to get a scoop with a little larger openings to sift effectively.  Truffle doesn't really like the texture of this litter, but that's okay, because we each have our own preferences.

If you'd like to try the WeRuVa It's a Tea Potty! Cat Litter, you can visit Pet360.  While you're purchasing your cat litter, check out the other WeRuVa products.  We know you won't be disappointed.   When WeRuVa It's a Tea Potty! Cat Litter is in your house, your human can have their own tea party and sit back and relax with friends and family without worries of litter box odor.

Dr. Catsby's Bowl for Whisker Relief: Review and Giveaway

Brulee wants to know where the food is for her new bowl.

Have you ever heard of whisker fatigue?  We'd never heard about it until a few months ago and now Mom Paula knows why Brulee was hesitant to eat out of the traditional cat food bowls.  Most traditional cat bowls are deep, which require us to put our faces down into it and our whiskers are forced into close contact with the sides of the bowls.  When our whiskers feel the pressure inside the bowls, it can be painful for us.  When we experience this pain, we don't always finish our food. Brulee has a flatter face (although, not extreme) which means her face has to be pressed in the bowl in order to eat.  Many times in the past, she would begin eating and then stop and walk away.  Mom Paula thought it was because she didn't like the food.
Dr. Catsby's bowl allows Brulee to eat whisker stress free

There is a new bowl to help prevent whisker stress when cats eat.  It's the Dr. Catsby™ Bowl for Whisker Relief.  The bowls are made of a stainless steel finish and are wide and shallow.  The design of the bowl allows easy access to our food without causing our whiskers to be pulled back, causing discomfort.   The wide and shallow eating surface allows the food to fall to the center of the bowl, but still provides enough of an edge to prevent food from being pushed out of the bowl (Brulee does this all the time).  The stainless steel finish help protect against wash-proof bacteria and is dishwasher safe and includes a cutaway in the side for easy lifting from the rubber mat.  The bowl is placed on a rubber mat, which keeps it from moving around when we eat from it.

Does your cat exhibit signs of whisker Stress?  Does she

  • leave food in the bowl, but is still begging you for food?
  • pull food out of the bowl with her mouth or paw to eat off the floor?
  • leave a mess behind on the floor?
  • only eat from the center of the bowl?
  • act aggressive towards other animals in the house during mealtime?
  • stand by the bowl before eating for a period of time, pacing around the bowl, or being hesitant to eat, though hungry?

If you can answer yes to any of these questions, your cat may be experiencing whisker stress.  Brulee meets almost all of the above signals, except being aggressive.  Instead of being aggressive, she would walk away from the bowl.  Mom Paula realized the traditional bowls she'd been using were not only causing whisker stress for Brulee, but because of her flat face, she couldn't see Truffle coming to steal her food.  As soon as Mom Paula put the Dr. Catsby's Bowl for Whisker Relief on the floor, Brulee immediately began eating.  In fact, she actually ate beside Truffle, which usually never happens.
Truffle enjoying the Dr. Catsby's Bowl for Whisker Relief

Both Truffle and Brulee loved eating from the Dr. Catsby's bowl.  In fact, Brulee has eaten almost every bit of her food and isn't making a mess on the floor.  She appears more comfortable eating close to Truffle, which makes mealtime much less stressful.  The bowl retails for $19.99, which isn't a bad price, considering the stainless steel bowl is resilient to bacteria, easy to clean, and raised high enough off the floor to make eating a little healthier for your cat.
See how close Truffle and Brulee are eating!

Throwback Thursday

We went back in the archives to this time in March 2012 and found this adorable photo of Brulee exposing her belly.  This is the only time she's ever done it and Mom Paula was so excited because Sweet Praline always laid on her back and exposed her belly.  Maybe one day, Brulee will do it again.  She was about 6 months old in this photo and hadn't been spayed yet.
