Today is National Disaster Pet Preparedness Day.  Earlier this week, we shared some helpful tips from the Hill’s Food, Shelter & Love® program ensuring safety for your pets in case you experience those unfortunate disasters. We encourage you to visit our post to get more information.

We encourage you to set up your own “Pet Emergency Go-Kit” of pet supplies that is readily accessible in an emergency. A Pet Go-Kit should include at a minimum

  • first aid supplies and guide book;
  • a 3-day supply of pet food in a waterproof container and bottled water;
  • a safety harness and leash (or a carrier);
  • waste clean-up supplies; medications and medical records;
  • a contact list of veterinarian and pet care organizations;
  • information on your pet’s feeding routine and any behavioral issues;
  • comfort toys; and
  • a blanket.
We are purring that you'll never need this kit.

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Hill’s® Pet Nutrition, Inc. The opinions and text are all mine.

  1. We keep hearing all these news items warning about impending earthquakes and stuff so we need to get on it!

  2. We have a weeks supply of everything. Of course we don't have a good first aid kit just for pets but still... And it's all ready to go-

  3. OH we hope no one in our community ever needs to use a disaster kit!

  11. TW put a fake one together for that post last year but we need a real one.

  12. Super good tips - we appreciate getting all of the help we can when it comes to keeping our pets safe!!

  13. As a witness to the wrath of H. Sandy in NJ, I also recommend choosing a "safe house" - a place where your pets can stay if you can't bring them. It happens.

  14. Lots of great and very important info! Thanks for sharing.

  15. We keep an emergency kit for the dogs and it is probably better stocked than ours. LOL!

  16. Always best to be prepared and something we don't usually think about until it's too late. I'd add vaccination records to the list just in case.

  17. That's a good list of tips. I need to get more organized as you never know.

  18. This is great information! Thanks so much for sharing!
