Truffle and WeRuVa It's a Tea Potty! Natural Cat Litter |
Last Winter, we received a bag of WeRuVa® It's a Tea Potty! Cat Litter to review. We'd just experienced a disaster with Truffle not liking a change in the litter once Mom Paula stopped mixing it with the previous litter, so we were a little hesitant about trying a new litter. Mom Paula put the litter in a separate litter box and gave us all the time we needed to see if we'd use it. It took about 6 weeks for Brulee to start using it and we were able to post a positive review in March 2016. Mom Paula loved the litter because it was extremely light-weight, controlled odors, and maintained the pleasant smell the entire month Brulee used the litter. Brulee slowly began using this litter as her preference. We couldn't say the same about Truffle at the time.

Truffle using the WeRuVa® It's a Tea Potty! Cat Litter |
All of this changed sometime this past summer. Before Mom Paula knew it, Truffle was using the litter box with the WeRuVa It's A Tea Potty! Cat Litter. Mom Paula was very pleased because now both of us were using a natural litter with incredible odor control that is free of chemicals and perfumes. This litter is made from Hinoki Wood and Green Tea, which is unusual for cat litter. The Hinoki Wood (Japanese Cypress) has been used in Japan for construction of temples, shrines, and hot tubs due to its resistance to humidity. This resistance to humidity naturally suppresses the growth of mold and bacteria, which helps with odor control. The green tea contains catechins, which are compounds with antioxidant properties which help to suppress the growth of bacteria and odor. Plus, it smells great! The litter is earth friendly and flushable and compostable (outside California). The WeRuVa It's a Tea Potty! Cat litter is sustainable because of the use of salvaged by-products from other industries such and piano and construction industries. WeRuVa plants a new tree for every tree that is used in the making of their cat litter.

Mom Paula continues to be amazed because she cannot detect odors from the litter box with the WeRuVa Cat Litter. The litter is refreshing, but not overpowering. The litter is a different texture from traditional litter and you may need to get a scoop with a larger openings to sift effectively. You'll also need to put a large litter mat outside of the litter box if you have a cat with longer fur because this litter tends to cling a little and will track outside the box. This isn't a problem because it's easy to vacuum. We're happy to report that everyone in the house is pleased with WeRuVa It's A Tea Potty! Cat Litter now. Mom Paula still keeps different litters in other boxes to allow us our preference for whatever mood we're in, but we're using the WeRuVa more and more.

My challeges are peeing into the lip of the lid , peeing on the side of the box making it difficult to scoop it away from the side, and clumps breaking apart. I would love to try a new brand!
ReplyDeleteThis litter sounds pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe litter has tea right in it? Ever neat. The peep says she read somewhere, once upon a time ('cause you know she's really, REALLY old as in ancient) that spent tea bags could absorb odours and from your experience, I guess it's safe to say that tea really does do the trick.

Our concerns are clumping solid and tracking. Most litters are good for one - but not the other :(
ReplyDeleteWe won a bag of this litter. We haven't tried it yet, but it sounds like a good litter.
ReplyDeleteI have a cat with asthma so litters that won't cause her issues are important. Dust and artificial scent free litters are a must.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a good litter. Purrs
ReplyDeleteThis litter is great! Manna and Cinco had an opportunity to try it out several months ago. Cinco loved it. I may have to pick it up and try it with Dexter! He would probably like it too.

I love my cats and want what's best for them, but I'm also concerned with the environment, and worry about using clay litter for that reason. I recently tried another "natural" litter but had one big problem right out the gate - it contained corn, and one of my dogs decided to make a meal of it. Not cat poop in the litter - the litter was fresh and the cats hadn't used it, but my Kyoko would not stay away from it. I somehow thing she won't want to eat this one. I definitely would like to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good litter, light is good :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a tracker. Litter is always on the outside of the boxes. It drives The Moms nuts. We'll have to see about giving this a try since the boys have stinky litter issues.
ReplyDeleteWith multiple cats keeping odours at bay is the biggest challenge. And getting them to use the litter box EVERY TIME!!!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great litter! I'm glad that both ladies like it!
ReplyDeleteTracking is my BIGGEST challenge with cat litter.
ReplyDeleteThe Lapdogs love Weruva cans, and we recently tried their chicken & sweet potato kibble. The girls said it was de-lish!
ReplyDeleteWhile we haven't had a reason to try the cat litter, we love Weruva as a company so I'm sure the litter is awesome! If we win, we'll donate the litter to our local shelter that ALWAYS needs litter as a donation!
ReplyDeleteTruffle and Brulee are a couple of very discerning kitties! I'm glad they're both using this natural litter, it sounds like a great product.

Don't talk to me about cat litter, what a nightmare! I can't tell you how many brands I've been through before I found something we were all happy with...and then we moved and had to start the search again. I definitely like the sound of this one, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI was just talking to a friend of my daughter's yesterday about a problem she is having with one of her cats and the litter box! I told her to change the litter to potentially solve the issue. Cats have preferences too and we can't give up trying until we find what works for them! I love that this litter is so natural!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about the properties of Hinoki Wood. Does it only grow in Japan? I can see how it would be useful for cat litter!
ReplyDeleteI would love to give this a try. I love that they plant a tree each time. I've tried other natural litters which have always resulted in a disaster, but still would LOVE to find one that Rosie and I can both agree on!
ReplyDeleteI too was impressed with the odor control of this litter. It is so fresh and light smelling. However because of the very fine pieces it caused a lot of tracking, especially with a long-haired cat.
ReplyDeleteWeird question, if a dog were to eat the gifts left behind by a cat, is this litter safe for them to eat?
ReplyDeleteI don't know. We'll ask WeRuVa
DeleteI like the sound of that Tea Potty. As Nala passed, no current need but will mention to my niece with her 2 cats. I hate odour.
ReplyDeleteI always appreciate environmentally friendly companies. I don't buy clay litter for lots of reasons, this sounds ideal.
ReplyDeleteNice post. Having dogs I can't relate, but it seems like a good product.
ReplyDeleteI love Weruva stuff! They were such lovely people at BlogPaws!
ReplyDeleteIt's always a challenge to find a litter with a good texture.
ReplyDeleteGreen tea litter...if I had a litter box this would be very, very appealing for me! I love the "tea potty" - so cute! And Truffle is just a gorgeous model! Thanks for the awesome review!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great product. I don't currently have cats, but have had friends in the past who were exasperated because their cats had such high standards for their boxes being just so. They probably would have benefited from this product. One quick point (as a gardener), I would hesitate to compost used catbox contents. My brother-in-law was an ag teacher for over 30 years, FFA, 4-H, etc. We've had conversations about this kinda thing. He's warned me about this in the past.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a good product because it is natural and like you said in your review for any cat owner litter odor is a big issue, So i guess this is a big plus
ReplyDeletei dont have cats but am entering to donate to safe haven cat shelter and clinic. if i did have cats my concerns would be the smell, the cat litter all over the house, having to clean it everyday or several times a day. and if the cat would like the particular litter i chose.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest concern is the smell and clumpability :)
ReplyDeleteOMC We have so wanted to try this. Fanks fur sharin'.
ReplyDeleteLuv ya'
Dezi and Raena
My cat is super picky about his litter. im still trying to find a good one for him! needs to clump
