Me or the Phone
Mom Paula is retiring in two months, so she's really busy at work trying to help with the transition of projects she's in charge of. Unfortunately, that means she's on the road a lot and is getting home late.Truffle is insisting Mom Paula pay more attention to her at night instead of getting on the phone or the computer. Do you think it works?

Revisiting Our Sedona Fountain
We previously shared a review of the Drinkwell® Sedona Fountain - Lake Breeze from PetSafe® last Spring. At the time, Mom Paula had it in the dining room area near the window. She could never tell if we were drinking from it or not and considered putting it up for later use. However, our fountain we used in the bedroom, which had a stream we would drink from, broke and Mom Paula decided to put the Sedona fountain in the bedroom beside the bed to see if we would drink from it. All of a sudden, both of us love drinking from the fountain and Brulee will actually drink from the top. This is a beautiful fountain and Mom Paula is thrilled that we are now drinking from it on a regular basis. This goes to show one should never give up on a water fountain or any other cat item because you never know when we will decide it's our favorite.

Caturday Art
We went back to LunaPic today for our Caturday Art creation. After selecting the paper folding effect, we went to PicMonkey and added some green to Truffle's eyes for a more dramatic effect.

Flashback Friday
We thought everyone could use a smile today, so we're flashing back to January 2012. Brulee had only been with us for 2 months and Truffle was being spayed. This photo shows them as kittens when they were both still willing to snuggle together. If you look closely, you can see Truffle's paw resting around Brulee's neck. Isn't this the purrfect picture of peace?

Who's Who? Silver Shaded Persians
Have you ever wondered how Mom Paula tells us apart? Would you believe she's even confused us at times? What are our similarities? What are our differences?
Many people look at us and say we're white Persians. Even Grandma Faye will tell people that Mom Paula is owned by two beautiful white Persians. Yes, at first glance, we do look like white cats, but nothing could be further from the truth. We're Silver Shaded Persians. What does this mean?
Silver shaded Persians have profuse coats and some have the difficult-to-groom "cotton candy" coat. Brulee has this cotton candy coat. It's so soft to the touch, but mats like crazy. Our skin is very thin and Mom Paula has to be careful not to hurt us by pulling on our fur too hard when we are groomed. We've shared posts in the past of the multiple tools Mom Paula uses to groom us. We have a brush, a slicker, a comb, a mat remover, and blunt-nosed scissors just for our fur. We have additional tools and products for our eyes and claws.
We hope you've enjoyed our little description of silver shaded Persians. Both of us are registered with the CFA, but we have different characteristics. Have you figured out how to tell us apart yet? Look at our eyes, our noses, and our fur.
Mom Paula: I used to go to cat shows when they were held in South Carolina and fell in love with the beautiful, long-haired Persians. I never thought I'd be able to have one, but was so blessed to get Sweet Praline when I was going through my divorce. The Persians can be a little aloof at times, but they do have the sweetest personalities. Grooming their fur and keeping their eyes clean are a full-time job. It's almost impossible to keep my house and clothes fur-free. When I lost Praline, I knew I still wanted Persians in my life and along came Truffle and Brulee. They are beautiful cats who are full of personality. If any of you are ever in SC near us, I'd love you to drop by and meet the girls so you can fall in love, too.

Silver Shaded Persians
The silver shaded Persian is easily confused with the Chinchilla Persian. To the average human eye, we look the same. The difference, according to the Cat Fancier's Association (CFA), is that the Chinchilla Persian has tipping about 1/8 of the length of the fur, whereas, the shaded Persians have about 1/3 of the length of the fur tipped. The silver shaded Persians have either green or blue-green eyes (both of us have a shade of green eyes). The eye rims, nose, and lips are outlined in black. We have a white undercoat and the ends of our fur is tipped in black. The silver shaded Persian is a little different from some of the more traditional Persians you see now because we have doll faces. A doll-face Persian has a normal length nose that is in proportion with the rest of the face and skull structure, but still has the distinctive look of a Persian.
There is a breed standard for the silver shaded Persians if someone wants to show them in a cat show. We're not show-quality cats, but pet-quality according to breed standards. However, we do have some of the required characteristics of the breed. We do have the green or blue-green eyes: Brulee's eyes are more green, while Truffle's eyes have a slight blue-green shade. It took almost two years for our eyes to reach their green shade. Both of us have the black eyeliner surrounding our round eyes.
Did you know that silver shaded Persians were born with dark fur. Mom Paula was warned not to be surprised when she received the first photos because the kittens wouldn't be light in color. Our coats didn't begin to get lighter until we were about four weeks old. It took almost two years for our full coats and final coloring to develop. Our undercoats are white and the fur on our back, flanks, head, and tail are tipped in black. Truffle also has some tipping on her legs. The ear tufts, chin, chest, and stomach should be pure white. You'll notice in the photo above that we are a pure white spot between our noses and mouths. The nose should be brick red with black outline, which Brulee has. Truffle has a black nose (shaped like a heart), which isn't standard, but Mom Paula says that makes her unique. Truffle is still a registered silver shaded Persian, but she doesn't meet the standard for a show cat. Our paw pads are black, which is really neat to see hidden beneath the soft, white fur.

We're usually pretty docile |
Did you know that at one time, the silver shaded Persians were considered difficult to handle? Some judges in cat show rings were heard to say that the silvers were gorgeous, but you couldn't put your hands on them. Fortunately, this is no longer the case with the breed. We are different in personality, though, from Persians of other colors. We're much more active. Mom Paula was quite surprised how active we are compared to Sweet Praline. We like to be entertained, so Mom Paula has a lot of interactive toys for us to play with. Truffle can be a little bully to Brulee if she doesn't have an outlet for her need for play. Silver Persians are usually smaller in size (we weigh around 7 pounds) and we don't develop our full coat and look until 3-5 years of age. We are known to be intelligent, affectionate, and people-oriented. The silvers are not typical "couch potatoes" as Persians are usually described. Don't get us wrong, we do like to take our naps, but we like activity, too. The silvers are sensitive and don't like isolation and confinement. Some breeders say silver Persians are "sassy" little characters, which Mom Paula says fits us purrfectly!

Candy for Kitties - Chewy Review
We received a new treat from Chewy.com as part of the Blogger Outreach program last month and it's like candy, especially to Brulee.
We've been fans of Wellness® cat food for a long time. In fact, one of Brulee's favorite Wellness products is the Signature Selects shredded can food. When we received the opportunity to review the Wellness® Kittles™ cat treats, we jumped in with all eight paws. The Kittles cat treats are 100% grain-free and wheat-free and contain no corn or soy.
Kittles cat treats offer a teeth-cleaning crunch. They contain no meat by-products, artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. Each delicious and crunchy treat is less than 2 calories. They offer tasty meat sources such as tuna, salmon, lamb, and chicken. We received a bag of the Duck and Cranberries Recipe. There are over 150 fun-shaped treats in each bag. The Kittles treats are available in 6 recipes: duck and cranberries, chicken and cranberries, tuna and cranberries, salmon and cranberries, turkey and cranberries, and whitefish and cranberries.
We chose to review the duck and cranberries recipe because we always eat chicken/turkey and tend to avoid too many fish products. We always eat freeze-dried treats, so Mom Paula wasn't too sure how we would react to these since they were smaller and crunchy. Brulee LOVED these treats. She will even push Truffle out of the way to eat them. She seems to love the flavor and crunchiness. In fact, it was difficult to get a clear photo of either of the girls eating the treats because they'd grab them so fast to eat.
All six flavors of the Wellness Kittles Tasty, Crunchy Cat Treats are available at Chewy.com ($2.50-3.99 per bag). If you choose to participate in the autoship program, you can get a reduction in the prices. We recommend you add these treats to a larger order with food and litter because Chewy.com offers free 2-day shipping for orders that total $49+. As always, the customer service is excellent at Chewy.com.

Sunday Selfie
Truffle gave Mom Paula a wonderful gift last night. Truffle loves to be next to Mom Paula and doesn't really mind it when she picks her up to hug a little. However, Truffle isn't a lap cat. Last night, Mom Paula was sitting on her chair with her legs covered by a warm blanket (it was cold here). Truffle voluntarily climbed onto Mom Paula's lap and rested there for over an hour. Mom Paula even fell asleep for a short nap while Truffle slept on her lap. Mom Paula is still smiling.

Brulee's Stare
Welcome to 2017. We want to continue to help those of you who visit us to leave us with a smile and good feelings about life in the South with two sweet Southern Persian ladycats. There will be times this year that we'll share information about a serious topic, post reviews of cat products that interest us, and always photos of us in our environment. Mom Paula is retiring early this year and she hopes to devote a little more time to the blog and helping us visit our friends.
Remember when we told you about Brulee's newest habit of sitting in a small area beside Mom Paula's chair and staring at her.? Mom Paula was able to capture a photo of Brulee doing this. She doesn't say anything, but just sits and looks. Sometimes Mom Paula can entice her out with treats or the laser toy, but sometimes, Brulee just sits. This started back when Aunt Vicky was staying with us because of the evacuation due to the hurricane that hit SC. The spooky thing is that Truffle will sometimes do the same thing. We'll continue to investigate this mystery this year...
