Blogging is Hard Work

Did you ever stop to think all the time that goes into writing a post for a blog?  There are some days there is only a  photo posted and other days there are product reviews and stories.  Even the posting of a "simple" photo requires a few hours.
Brulee sleeping on the job

First, there is the chore of capturing your cat (or dog) in a photograph that can actually be used.  We stay indoors all the time and our house has very little natural light, so Mom Paula is constantly trying to get a clear photo without the yellow tones and ghostly eyes.  There's also the fact that we are usually moving in all of the photos.

The next step is choosing that one photo from hundreds that will tell the story you're trying to convey. Then we start editing with various software programs to crop, straighten, and edit the photo.  This could take a few hours if you have a photo with clutter in the background or if you need to add logos or quotes.

Deciding a title for your post usually comes after the blog is written for us.  Mom Paula tends to look at the photo and let it tell her a story.  Our narrative reflects that story and our title summarizes the story.

There is a lot more work for a sponsored post, a memory post, or a research post.  We like to mix it up a little, but always share photos of Truffle and Brulee and hope you can visit our blog each day and leave with a smile on your face.

Have a great weekend!

Pee ess - We forgot to mention we do this 365 days a year.  We've never missed a day since our blog began 5.5 years ago.

  3. You're right - blogging IS a lot of work! My human doesn't remember when Sparkle started blogging every day (back in 2003, it was only once a month... then twice... then three times... and went up from there). But once it was every day, there has only been one weekend there was no post, and that was right before I came to live here.

  5. You're amazing!! Sometimes I can barely manage 2 posts a week. It is time consuming, especially when it comes to researching for an article. My favourites are the ones I can just write. Pictures definitely take up a ton of time. Not only do you actually have to take a decent shot (good luck with that in this house!!), but it's figuring out what to write, making them look nice... I must know your secret...how do you manage to write one post a day?

  14. I absolutely love this photo! The fluff is so cute. I agree that blogging is a lot harder than it looks. You are amazing for blogging every day for all that time! High paw! I blogged every day for about a year and it wore me out. I love what you are doing and I can't wait to see how it will evolve now that your mom is going to have a little more time. :)

  15. I know what you mean. Although we have lots of natural light ,and the cats are outside it is hard to get a picture that conveys the story you want to tell!

We love this picture, light or shade a stretched out Persian is a joy to see. :-)

  16. I love your photos, they make me smile. I can not believe your Mom has not missed a day. I miss days regularly as it is so much work. Creating a good post with photos, pins, featured images, titles, SEO, a great story, good formatting, grammar and spelling, etc and in our case videos, takes us ages. Then it takes a lot to promote it and socialize or no one will see it.

  17. Wow, first of all I'm amazed that you post every day! I also wait until everything else is complete to pick a title.

  18. You blog every single day?? Now THAT is a ton of work. I shoot for 3x a week, sometimes 4 and even that's hard. I go through a ton photos for each blog or social media post too, thank heaven for digital photography, right?!

  19. I know! When I hit the computer to work on blogs, I always think I will get done sooner than I do. I need to realize the actual time it takes to do all of this. ;)

  21. Very impressive that you've never missed a day in 5.5 years! Blogging certainly is hard work, especially the photo part! I sometimes spend more time picking and editing photos than actually writing!
