When Mom Paula first had cats, she fed them the same thing all the time and it was usually a bag of food from the grocery store. When Sweet Praline came to live with Mom Paula, she slowly added canned food to her diet, thinking it was something extra that should be fed occasionally. As Praline aged, Mom Paula realized Praline needed the wet food as a good source of hydration. She didn't feed fish to Praline because she'd read somewhere it was not good for cats to eat all the time, so she tended to stick with chicken. That was fine until the recipe was changed and then discontinued. It took a long time to find a food that Praline would eat, so when we came to live with Mom Paula, she decided she would vary our food so we wouldn't become bored.

Both Truffle and Brulee liked the Ziwi® Peak Rabbit & Lamb Recipe Canned Cat Food |
Mom Paula discovered we really like rabbit recipes, but not many pet food companies carry it. When we were contacted by Chewy.com to try the Ziwi® Peak Canned Cat Food, we jumped at the opportunity to try the New Zealand Rabbit & Lamb Recipe. The Ziwi canned cat food is designed to mirror a whole-prey, nutrient dense diet using fresh meat, organs and bone, as well as New Zealand green lipped mussels.
The Rabbit & Lamb Recipe is made from 100% single-sourced lamb that is free-range and grass-fed on ethical and sustainable New Zealand farms and rabbit that is wild caught. The lamb and rabbit are carefully blended for the right balance of protein and fat. An interesting ingredient of this food is the 3% of New Zealand Green Mussels. The mussels are a natural source of chondroitin and glucosamine which supports joint health. This limited ingredient forumula includes 92% fresh meat, organs, bones, and green mussels. It's made as a chunky loaf with enough moisture to entice the pickiest eater. Mom Paula used a fork to break it apart to help Brulee eat. As you notice from the video below, both Truffle and Brulee enjoyed the food (notice the difference in how Brulee eats compared to Truffle). The Ziwi canned food never includes grains, rice, corn, soy, potatoes, wheat, fillers, sugars, glycerins, rendered meals, preservatives, TSPP, BPA, guar gum, agar agar, or carrageenan.
Ziwi® was previously known as ZiwiPeak and has recently undergone a packaging and slight formulation change. It's important to slowly transition your cat to the new formulas when changing her food. There are five recipes of the new Ziwi® Peak canned cat food: Lamb, Rabbit & Lamb, Venison, Beef, and Mackerel & Lamb. They are available in 6.5 oz cans in a case of 12 from Chewy.com. We were impressed with this food and will definitely add it to our meal plan.
Bear's not a fan of pate or "loafs" - but this sounds like such a great food - I'll see if I can trick him into trying it ;) We stick to common meats usually ... but occasionally, I like to give him something special.
ReplyDeleteIt clearly was a big hit :)
ReplyDeleteZiwi is a great quality canned food. Our cats ate this as part of their diet before switching to raw.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot to like in those cans, it looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteZiwi is good food. We're glad you two liked it.
ReplyDeleteWe love Ziwi - it's very high quality, but expensive! My human wishes she could give it to us more often.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Ziwi, but it sounds good. Maybe we'll try it on our pair to give them some variety.
ReplyDeleteThis was clearly kitty-approved. I love seeing all their adorable photos!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see your kitties really enjoying their new food!
ReplyDeleteI liked it!
ReplyDeleteMmmm rabbit. Seeing how Jasmine is always trying to catch them outside, I'm pretty sure she'd love this stuff too! lol Looks like you guys really love your new food.
ReplyDeleteI love rabbit meat in the summer. Rabbit is energetically cooling, so a great choice in the summer. Lamb, is hot, BTW. ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this information. I didn't know about rabbit and lamb and weather.
DeleteThis video is so cute! I can never tell Truffle & Brulee apart! I can see how they're loving the food.
ReplyDeleteLove & biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
Truffle and Brulee look so happy eating their Ziwi Rabbit and Lamb food. Happy to hear you found a meal plan that they love!
ReplyDeleteI saw this on the Chewy.com site and thought about getting some for my cats! Glad to hear yours loved it! The video was so cute your kitties are GORGEOUS (secretly wanting them both)...
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to watch how cats eat - they have their own eating personality!
That's amazing. We loves Chewys! And moisture rich cat foods are SO important.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know they rebranded. We mainly use their treats for training. He hasn't had their canned food.
ReplyDeleteMy cat with allergies might only be able to eat rabbit. I have mixed ... well bad... feelings about this as I lost a pet rabbit two years ago (after paying over $400 in vet bills to save her in the first place). Sigh. I've been told rabbit might be one of the few 'natural' foods for cats. After all, when have you seen a cat stalk a cow?
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your rabbit. I've also heard this is a great natural food for cats. Someone once told me to stay away from fish - after all, how often to you see cats fishing for food?
DeleteOoohh that looks delicious. Can dogs eat cat food? <3 Dear Mishu
ReplyDeleteMy parent's cat loves these! She's a spoiled little thing, but for good reason :).
ReplyDeleteI love that ZIWI products include organ and bone in their meals, so important to a cat's health! It is intriguing that they also use green-lipped muscles. I've been hearing a lot about these lately and am interested in them for arthritis in my canine massage clients. I will definitely be researching further.
ReplyDeleteI keep meaning to sign up for this program. Rooster would love the variety and it would be a great way to determine what he will eat. I've never tried him on rabbit or lamb.
ReplyDeleteYour girls seem to be enjoying this! My mom's first cat was very picky about what foods she ate. I try to feed my dogs a slightly varied diet, because I also found out the hard way that sometimes a food or brand is discontinued.
ReplyDeleteNom Nom Nom! I always thought cats were extra picky about foods, but maybe they just need more variety in their lives!
ReplyDeleteBrulee is extremely picky and that's why Mom Paula is happy when she finds something both of us like.
