Truffle and Brulee reminding everyone to spend some time with a cat today and everyday |
This morning when Mom Paula woke up, Truffle never came into the bedroom for her morning treats, which is very unusual. Mom Paula walked into the guest bedroom and Truffle was resting there in front of the long window (which isn't unusual) but when she turned around, her eye was almost closed. When Mom picked up Truffle, she seemed very uncomfortable, so Mom Paula rushed to put on some clothes, call the vet, and stick both of us into the Sleepypod and off to the vet we went. (Brulee didn't understand why she had to go).

Once in the car, Brulee curled up in her sleepypod® and went off to sleep. Truffle talked to Mom Paula the entire way. We had to wait a little longer than usual at the vet because we were a "work in" but Mom Paula was patient because she was so worried about Truffle. Truffle continued to talk to Mom Paula in the waiting room.

Truffle inside her Sleepypod waiting to see the vet |
Brulee and Truffle always go to the vet together to help avoid added stress of strange smells when they get back home. Brulee explored the examination room while waiting for the vet to arrive and once Dr. Strom came in, Mom Paula put Brulee inside her Sleepypod so she wouldn't be in the way.

Truffle weighed 7.8 pounds and her temperature was normal. She snuggled in close to Mom Paula while waiting for the vet. There was more noise than usual because the eye specialist was at the hospital today and they had him in the room beside the normally quiet cat room (our vet is a AAFP Cat Friendly Practice). There was a dog in the next room making a lot of noise and the already stressed Truffle was seeking refuge in Mom Paula's arms. Dr. Strom came in to examine her eye and said he wanted to stain the eye to see if he could find the problem.

Truffle's injured eye |
Mom Paula was able to stand right beside Truffle and watch Dr. Strom investigate Truffle's eye. He stained it, washed it out, turned off the lights, turned on the black light, and looked into her eye. It appears our normally bright-eyed Truffle has injured her right eye and has an ulcer on it. You could tell this because the green from the stain stayed on the eye instead of washing away. The eye isn't infected and there isn't any yucky stuff coming from it. The vet said it was superficial and that she should be okay in a couple of weeks. She has some antibiotic ointment to put in her eyes and will go back to the vet on Friday to check on her progress. Truffle is usually pretty good with Mom Paula putting drops/gel in her eye because of some previous eye infections/Herpes viruses, but the ulcer must hurt because Truffle doesn't want Mom Paula to put the medication in her eye. Truffle is basically staying to herself today, but Mom Paula is keeping a close eye on her.
We're including a short little video of Truffle in her Sleepypod on the way to the vet. Mom Paula says when Truffle is crying in the car on the way to the vet that she always sounds so sad and it makes Mom Paula feel bad. Poor little baby.
Please purr for Truffle that she will get better soon and for Mom Paula so she won't worry so much.
Poor Truffle. We purr that her eye is better soon.
ReplyDeleteOh No Truffle. We're so sorry ya'll had to go to da VET on such a day. But, we're glad it's nuffin' serious and we're sendin' lots of hugs and purrayers.

PeeEss: With all mommy's dental issues, we just didn't have time to get around to fotos fur da calendar. We'll check da deadline, and ifin not too late, we'll submit somethin'. But ifin it is, no purroblem, we'll just have to wait till da next one.
We hope Truffle's back to her magnificent self soon. Bear used to get frequent eye infections (his eye would swell shut) ... and I had to smear ointment on the eye itself. I was a wreck worried I'd hurt his eye somehow.
ReplyDeleteFeel better sweet girl! xoxo

ReplyDeleteWe is sorry you had to go to the vet, Truffle. We is glad that you will be okay. We know that antibiotic ointment is yucky, but please let Mom Paula put it in your eye so it heals up nice and fast, okay?

ReplyDeletePoor Truffle! Tell her that Real Cat Webster has had the same thing before, and he was fine within a few days (getting that ointment in his eye was NOT fun though!). Hoping she feels better soon. :)
ReplyDeleteWe are wishing you all a speedy recovery! Whew... what a way to spend International Cat Day!
ReplyDeletePoor Truffle ! Get better soon ! Purrs
ReplyDeleteI feel for you on those eye ulcers, very common in my Boxer dogs but glad you took her in so soon. They can be quite irritating and annoying. LOVE her weight, kudos to you for not having a chunky kitty :)
ReplyDeleteThe Silver Persians tend to be smaller cats. Her sister, Brulee, weighs about 8.8 pounds which is probably because she has the more traditional cobby body.
DeleteSpeedy recover Truffle, we know you are the best cared for cat EVER so you will want for nothing.
ReplyDeleteWe recommend more treats as th perfect treatment :-)
Purrs to Truffle and Paula, from Whiskey, Boris, and Virgil.
ReplyDeleteI love those Sleepy Pods, and hope to get one soon.
Sending doodle kisses and heartfelt hugs to you for a speedy recovery, Truffle. We'll sure be sending positive thoughts to you and your mom until you're all better again!
ReplyDeletePoor, sweet Truffle. I myself have had a number of ulcers in my eyes over the years and I can say from experience they are EXTREMELY painful and light sensitive. I hope she feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteAwww, Truffle, we're so sorry you hurt your eye. You're in good paws with Mom Paula so we're sure you'll be good as new real soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad Truffle had to go to the vet but happy that her ailment was fixable and not too serious. Any idea what happened?
ReplyDeleteHey, I didn't know August 8 was International Cat Day. I'll have to add that to my pet calendar.
Aweee Poor baby! What a horrible way to have to spend Cat Day of all days! Her little meow is so sweet and sad too.
ReplyDeleteI still want to get some of the cat pods!
I hope she gets better SOON!
I'm sorry that you didn't get to celebrate International Cat Day with a lot of fun, but I'm glad that you were able to get Truffle to the vet and hopefully she will be feeling good soon. I think you should have a special Caturday celebration when she if feeling up to it!
ReplyDeleteSweet Truffle. You did sound awfully pathetic in that video. We know you will soon be all better, if you let Mom Paula apply the antibiotic. Mom sends prayers and we send purrs and POTP. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy
ReplyDeleteWhat a way to celebrate! hahaha. They were probably like, "Mom... this is NOT how you celebrate our day!" but you gotta do what you gotta do! - Shelby
ReplyDeleteNot the ideal Cat Day but lucky the eye specialist could check right away. Hoping that Truffle feels better ASAP and more vet trips averted and more treats consumed.
ReplyDeleteYou may never know what happened, poor Truffle. Glad it wasn't something really serious!
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry to hear about Truffles eye injury! We are glad that she got treated so quickly, sometimes it can be hard to notice something is wrong with your cat, but a good cat mom always knows. Hope she is better soon.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Poor Truffle!!! Hopefully her eye heals quickly and she can be back to her usual self! Those sleepy pods are so cool!
ReplyDeleteI hope Truffle gets better very soon! You were so smart to rush her straight to the vet! Sometimes pet parents don't realize that eye injuries are an emergency. Great job Mom Paula!
