Wellness® Core® Simply Shreds™ Boneless Chicken and Tuna & Shrimp |
The Wellness® Core® Simply Shreds™ is designed to be a food topper or side for your cats. This delicious side dish is grain-free and formulated to provide a meat-based ancestral diet that cats thrive on. The Simply Shreds™ are made with four ingredients are less and are designed to be added to a complete and balanced food diet. We received a sample of the boneless chicken and the tuna & shrimp.

Truffle eating the tuna & shrimp flavor of the Wellness® Core® Simply Shreds |
I put both flavors on the floor at the same time to see which the girls preferred. Truffle went straight to the tuna & shrimp flavor. She licked all of the liquid and then went over to see what Brulee was eating from her dish (chicken). Both girls licked up all of the liquid. They left some of the meat in the dish, but that could have been due to them just eating earlier in the evening. I will add this topper to their regular food in the future to add some additional moisture in their diet and to aid in Brulee eating her wet food.

Truffle eating the Wellness® Core® Simply Shreds™ chicken |
The Wellness® Core® Simply Shreds™ are available in four flavors: Boneless Chicken, Boneless Chicken & Mackerel, Wild Salmon & Tuna, and Tuna & Shrimp. These toppers have no fillers or anything artificial. They provide a healthy boost of pure protein to help maintain lean muscle and hydration levels. They are available in a case of 12 pouches. We do recommend you hold the pouch over a cat bowl or the sink when opening it because there is a lot of liquid in the pouch. It is important to remember the Simply Shreds™ are designed to be a supplement to a complete and balanced diet and shouldn't be fed as a sole source of food. Cases are currently available at Chewy.com for $13.99.
We like wellness but we usually make a shred mess, but it looks yum!
ReplyDeleteThere definitely is a lot of liquid in these, I can't open them without making a mess.:)
ReplyDeleteMmm... that sounds nom nom! I usually lick all the liquid and gravy up first, too, when I eat moist foods. I leave the meat for last. Purrs to you my white doves! -Valentine (& Mom) of Noir Kitty Mews
ReplyDeleteMy human says I don't need these. :-( BUT she says that Binga does because she could always use more food and treats. It's hard keeping weight on an older kitty.
ReplyDeleteWhen I gave my two smoke Persian kitty brothers, Andy and Dougy, albacore as a birthday treat, they left the meat and slurped up the liquid. Since, I've drained the liquid off the tuna water off the can and fixed the tuna for myself. They become wildcats trying to get to this liquid!
ReplyDeleteSimilarly, when I've offered them shreds in "gravy", they waste the meat but eat the "gravy". I feed them Wellness chicken in the pate form for the wet food part of their diet, and they do a reasonable job of eating that, though I also feed them an indoor adult cat formula dry food their veterinarian recommends (since his clinic sells it... LOL!) that they thrive on.
They've always been good about using their water fountain since kittenhood when they barely could drink from it, which is encouraging since many cats resist drinking adequate water.
I think what all this means is you never know if a cat will take to any given food or treat.
The cat I had before the kitty boys, for example, was a rescue cat that love, love, loved a cheap cat food but wouldn't eat more nutritionally acceptable (and expensive) food I eventually had to donate to - ironically - the shelter from which I rescued him! He, too, ate the "gravy" and left the shreds when I tried varying his diet this way.
You are correct. This is one reason I offer a variety of food, textures, and flavors to the girls. I've been known to crumble treats on top of the food to encourage them to eat.
DeleteIt's not just Persians. Bear and Ellie always eat the gravy first (Bear licks it off ... Ellie gets the chunk in her mouth and then spits it out when she's gotten all the gravy off it - this is what Kitty did too). I'm always looking for food with a lot of liquid/gravy/sauce - we're going to have to try this one.
ReplyDeleteFood toppers are a great way to make our fur babies enjoy their meals more. I love the heart shaped food bowls of Truffle and Brulee! Thanks for the thorough review of Simply shreds. I don't have a cat but will recommend it to my cat-mom friends:-)
ReplyDeleteThese really looks yummy! Maybe we should have gotten these this month!
ReplyDeleteI think my cat would love these and my dogs would be quite jealous! I'm glad that they were a big hit with your cats.
ReplyDeleteWow this sounds so yummy! So many cats do not drink enough water, so I love that it is so juicy. I bet the girls were very happy with Mom.
ReplyDeleteMy dogs love food toppers, I enjoy mixing it up with toppers. Phoebe is a lapper, she always likes to drink up the liquid first. Tuna & Shrimp is a great combo, they must have loved that one.
ReplyDeleteLove & Biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them.
It's fascinating how different breeds of cats can have entirely different ways of eating and different food preferences. My cat Peanut Butter would go nuts over the Chicken and Mackerel.
ReplyDeleteOoo... I'm loving that they have wet treats!! I think its so important that cats get that moisture. - Shelby
ReplyDeleteI did not know Persians eat with their tongues. Unfortunately my two cats have food allergies and are on strict diets. My previous cat would have loved this though.
ReplyDeleteThe flatter faced Persians tend to eat with their tongues. Truffle is more of a doll-faced Persian, so she bites into her food.
DeleteThese toppers look yummy and with four flavors to pick from how can you choose just one! How awesome that you guys licked your plates clean!
ReplyDeleteYep. These pouches look yummy for your girls. My cat Dusty used to lap up her dinner the same way- liquid first and food second. Thanks for sharing this review.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am not surprised at how much they liked this wet food. I would think cats would prefer wet over dry food if given a choice. How great that they just dove in and lapped it up. You know you have a winner when they do that. :)
ReplyDeleteThose dishes are cute. Mr. N can be picky too about the texture of canned food. Maybe he's part cat!
ReplyDeleteThese look so yummy and healthy. The girls look like they really enjoyed lapping up the gravy. I always add liquid and toppers to Kilo's kibble. Kilo loves licking up the gravy first but he never leaves anything in the bowl LOL.
ReplyDeleteMy cats would love this! My three cats go crazy for anything that contains wet cat food. Once I open either a can or a bag they are right there at my feet!
ReplyDeleteTruffle and Brulee are always so sweet. Love those smooshy faces. We are such a Chewy fan too! Glad you are enjoying your food.
ReplyDeleteI need to check if I can get these. Delicious!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOurs LOVE the gravy and leave meat to * sigh *
Brulee does this a lot! It drives me crazy!
DeleteThese toppers do sound yummers! And two different tuna options is nice to add in some variety while keeping picky eaters happy. Your heart-shaped serving dishes are adorable as well!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like something my cat would really enjoy! I'll have to look into getting some for him.
ReplyDeleteTruffle and Brulee look adorable while eating their food:-) These toppers from chewy.com seem to be the perfect balance between meat and liquid!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there was a stereotypical fashion in which Persians eat. Interesting. I remember you stating that the girls need variety so it's great that there are four flavours to choose from.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine my kitties devouring these! Manna would lick up all of that liquid right away like Truffle and Brulee did. Those photos are so cute. You can tell that they were really enjoying this food. :) We might have to give these a try!
ReplyDelete-Purrs from your friends at www.PlayfulKitty.net
Rosie eats both Wellness (the pate) and Weruva, but she also likes variety and sometimes get bored. I should try this with her. I think she would like the shreads.
ReplyDeleteOops typo - I think she would like the "shreds" not shreads!
