Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween to all of our furriends and their humans! We're going to have a quiet evening in the back of the house so we don't get any tricks from all of the little humans who roam through our neighborhood tonight.  Believe us, there are a lot!!!

Keeping Your Cats Safe on Halloween

It's time to have fun on Halloween! Humans will be out and about in all types of costumes visiting homes to Trick or Treat! This can be great fun, but also stressful for our cats. What can you do to ensure your cats are safe and secure during the Halloween festivities?

It's National Pumpkin Day and what a cute little pumpkin Brulee was at 7 weeks old. I'm so thankful Mom Terri sent me photos of the girls as they were growing up prior to them coming to live with me. It's so fun to look back and see all of the photos of the girls as playful kittens.  It's hard to believe Brulee was ever that still for a photo!

I love that I received photos of Brulee from the day she was born. Mom Terri set up the best photo shoots each week of the kittens. She sent this photo of Brulee in October 2011.  I can't believe she was so still for this photo because she won't sit still in front of a camera now.

Top of the Tree

Brulee has the cobby Persian body with short legs.  One wouldn't think she'd love to jump and climb, but her favorite place to rest when the sunbeams are coming through the window is in the top of the cat tree.  She's claimed this place as her own and Truffle doesn't dare try to get up there.  Interestingly, Truffle prefers resting on the lower levels.

We went to LunaPic again for our Caturday Art creation. This "emboss" effect was very simple and we thought it looked like a painting of Truffle. We love the textures.

It's Tocktober Time!

It's time to have a little fun today!  It's Tocktober Day!  What is Tocktober Day?

We've celebrated Tocktober Day since 2008 when Sweet Praline first began blogging. She had the floofiest tocks and Mom Paula always loved getting photos of Praline's backside and sharing with the Cat Blogosphere.

Brulee is thankful she has another scratcher she can sleep on until Mom Paula can get her another one that is off the ground.

Update on Mom Paula:  Mom Paula went to the orthopedist yesterday to check on her knee and thumb. There are definitely contusions, but not broken bones. The doctor said Mom Paula may have aggravated or made her torn meniscus worse because of where the pain is. He offered to give her a shot, but she said she'd wait a little while to see if it got worse. He gave her an ointment to put on her knee to help with the pain and inflammation. She definitely bruised her thumb and the doctor is concerned she could have a scaphoid fracture, which is the same thing she had on her left hand when she fell on the ice 3 years ago. She's wearing a brace during the day to keep the joint stable. Mom Paula thinks she may have hit her chin on the edge of our cat tree because it's sore.

Keeping Calm in the House

Six years ago was the first time I'd ever had more than one cat in 25+ years. I knew my previous cat, Praline, would get stressed during thunderstorms, but I had no idea of the possible stress of two personalities at one time. I was told about a diffuser that would keep cats calm.

You’ve decided to bring home a new bundle of fur.  It’s important to plan in advance prior to bringing the kitten home in order to keep her safe and happy and to ease the transition from the shelter or breeder. Kittens required special care, just like human babies, those first few days or weeks while adjusting to the new home. If possible, plan on bringing your kitten home when you will have a couple of days to help your kitten get used to the new environment.

Is This Water Tastier?

Truffle and Brulee have 3 pet fountains throughout the house.  So how come Truffle prefers drinking out of my new Gamecock cup?  I admit, I drink more water now since this cup keeps the water cold. Every time I put it down, though, Truffle wants a sip. Around here, what Truffle wants, Truffle gets.

Would you believe that 6 years ago today, Brulee chose Mom Paula as her new mom? We were looking at Facebook this morning and Mom Paula made the announcement that the decision had been made on who the new fur child would be. Everyone was surprised with the choice, especially Mom Terri, but it was the best decision ever made. A month later, Brulee came to live with us and she made herself right at home (in spite of Truffle's protests) from the beginning. We love our sweet Brulee.
