We don't eat too much fish as treats or food. In fact, we don't really like the taste of fish. We were interested in trying the freeze-dried minnows treats that were available from Chewy.com this month to see what we thought of them.

Truffle likes the taste of the Minnows from Vital Essentials |
We've eaten Vital Essentials treats in the past and love the freeze-dried rabbit flavor. Chewy.com offered the Vital Essentials treats as an option as part of the Chewy Influencer program this month and since we'd already tried the rabbit flavor, we wanted to experiment a little. Mom Paula decided to order the Vital Essentials Minnows Freeze-Dried Cat Treats this month for us to try sample. We don't think she believed the treats were actual fish.

Truffle can't believe she's actually going to eat a fish |
Guess what? These minnow treats are actually freeze-dried whole minnows! Mom Paula remembers using live minnows to fish when she was a child. These treats are made out of a single source protein with no added hormones, antibiotics, fillers, or flavorings. The Minnow treats are made with only fresh, whole single-sourced minnows that were freeze-dried to preserve vital nutrients without cooking or over-processing.
At first when Mom Paula pulled them out of the bag, we weren't too sure what to do with them. They smelled great, but they were larger than treats we normally eat. We don't know if it makes a difference or not, but when Mom Paula let us sniff the tail area first, we didn't want it. She turned it around to the head and both of us immediately ate it. Truffle was able to eat the minnow with little problem. Brulee took a little longer and would bite it into pieces to eat it. Once she ate the first treat, she wanted more. The girls were so fast eating the treats that Mom Paula had a difficult time getting a clear photo.

Truffle wants more of the Vital Essentials Minnows treats |
The Vital Essentials treats are designed as a snack and are not intended to be fed as a complete and balanced diet. Pet parents should wash hands and clean areas the treats touch thoroughly with hot, soapy water after each feeding. The treats should be stored in a cool dark place and are best if fed within 30 days after opening. We don't think these treats will last 30 days!
Vital Essentials treats are available in 8 different flavors and range in price from $3.99 - $4.92 per bag. The bags range from 0.5-oz to 1.1-oz bags. We look forward to trying the other 6 flavors in the future, but will definitely keep reminding Mom Paula to order the Minnows when she orders our food and other treats from Chewy.com.
I've had those! I chomped them immediately - they are good!
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting treat! Maybe a package will end up in our stockings this Christmas.
ReplyDeleteHow very interesting. We might have to look up about these treats on chewy! Gemini, particularly loves her smelling fishies.
ReplyDeleteDang, that was a pretty yummy catch sweet girls!
ReplyDeleteThe entire fish thing is a bit ... disconcerting - but also great for those of us who carefully monitor what we feed our kitties. Looks like a win in this case!
ReplyDeleteGlad they liked them. I think I would get nauseous handling real fish.
ReplyDeleteNom nom nom. Glad the girls loved the treats. I find it interesting about the presentation of the tail first had them unbothered and then the head first their radar went in full effect! LOL
ReplyDeleteThat's so interesting that seeing/sniffing the head got them to eat it! I never met a cat who did t like fish, LOL! My dogs love fish like crazy.
ReplyDeleteLove & biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
FYI - also a huge success with little dogs! :) I eat freeze dried anchovies!
ReplyDeleteJack likes freeze dried treats as well although I don't think they do a fish variety. As a vegetarian I would be a little disturbed at having to see those whole little fishies but since freeze dried has gotten rave reviews in this house I may not have a choice or I'll get my husband to dole them out!
ReplyDeleteYum yum! Gonzo and Beau go crazy for the Vital Essentials Minnows. It's their favorite treat ever.
ReplyDeleteMr. N can be picky about fish too. He hasn't tried these, I'm curious if he would like them!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen these before, but it looks like something my pets might like. However, I don't think I would like handling them.
ReplyDeleteI was a little hesitant at first, but it was more of a visual thing. The girls loved them.
DeleteVery Interesting...I am not sure how I feel about pulling out an entire fish. I am sure though that the cats love them!
ReplyDeleteEWW those are whole fish!! I would not want to touch then at all! I give my dog some fish scale tails and make her take them out of the package, no way I am touching that stuff! But I'm glad you ladies enjoyed them!!
ReplyDeleteGusto loves the rabbit treats. He loves fish too. I wonder if I should give him cat treats though...do you think he will start meowing instead of barking?
ReplyDeleteI bet Rhette would love those! It's funny but I bought him rabbit treats and he won't eat them, I think it's because they're suppose to be low calorie! My husband loves sardines the cats would go nuts when he would eat them so he always shared. You cats are so lucky!
ReplyDeleteThese look fantastic! Cookie wouldn't like them, probably. Tried some of the dehydrated fish treats such as skins etc and she did not like the idea even though she does like fish otherwise. But overall I love this.
