Thankful for Snuggles

When you see photos of Persian cats, do you ever think, "I bet they are soft and cuddly?"  We are definitely soft kitties, but we cuddle on our own terms. Truffle and Brulee aren't really lap kitties, but they always like to stay close to Mom Paula, especially now that she's retired and home more often.

Each of us has a special location in the house where we want Mom Paula to pay us attention...

Bedroom

Brulee snuggling on Mom Paula's lap

The only place Brulee will climb into Mom Paula's lap is when they are in the bed. Brulee doesn't really like to be held or petted, but when Mom Paula is sitting in the bed, Brulee becomes a little love bug. She will climb up onto Mom Paula's lap with a little purr and snuggle in. She will let Mom Paula pet her all over and will even roll over on her back to have her belly rubbed. That is, until Mom Paula tries to remove some of those mats under Brulee's arm. Brulee will begin a quiet little purr and rest her head in the crook of Mom Paula's arm. Sometimes, when Mom Paula wants to lie down and take a nap, Brulee will snuggle up next to her chest and neck and place her head on Mom Paula's arm to sleep. Brulee has the cutest (and longest) little ritual before she finally settles in. She'll purr, walk close up and then walk away. She'll walk a little closer, get a pet from Mom Paula, and walk away. This goes on several times before she finally "plops" down beside Mom Paula. It's really a special time when Brulee decides it's time for loving, so Mom Paula lets Brulee stay wherever she wants for as long as she wants because this is the ONLY location Brulee becomes a lap kitty. Most of the time, Brulee prefers resting on her pink Peggy Blankie she received from Auntie ML when she was a kitten.

Home Office

Truffle snuggling in Mom Paula's arms in the Home Office

Truffle's favorite place to get snuggles with Mom Paula is in the home office. You've seen photos of her sitting in front of the computer monitor, which is her favorite place (in fact, Truffle is sitting there now as Mom Paula is trying to type), but every once in a while, Truffle will turn towards Mom Paula and give her that huge stare with a meow and she wants Mom Paula to pick her up. Truffle will snuggle into Mom Paula's arms and stay there forever if Mom Paula would let her. Even though Truffle only weighs 8 pounds, she can get a little heavy after a while, so Mom Paula has to place Truffle beside her in the cat tree. Truffle loves for Mom Paula to pick her up and hold her, but she doesn't stay long unless Mom Paula is sitting in her desk chair in the home office. Both girls like to be near Mom Paula when she's in the office. Brulee is usually napping in her cat scratcher bed or on the cat tree, while Truffle is usually in front of the computer or on the cat tree. Recently, Brulee decided she wants to be picked up and held when Mom Paula is trying to work on the computer.

Living Room

Truffle and Brulee snuggling on the foot rest

The third location where the girls like to snuggle is in the living room. Brulee is usually resting on one of her curved scratchers, while Truffle tends to rest on the foot rest or her blue cat tree. Brulee and Truffle like to jump on the back of the chair and sleep behind Mom Paula's head. Since Mom Paula is home more with her retirement, both girls like to rest on the footrest and were recently caught cuddled up next to each other for a few minutes. Mom Paula tries to hold Brulee in the living room, but Brulee wants nothing to do with cuddling in this room. Recently, Truffle has actually climbed onto Mom Paula's lap and snuggled in. Last week, when the weather turned cool and Mom Paula had her throw over her legs, Truffle decided to climb onto Mom Paula's lap/legs and stayed there for a couple of hours. She would have continued to rest there, but Mom Paula said something about Mother Nature calling. The first photo on our blog post was of Truffle resting on the throw Spitty sent us last year in our Secret Paws package. Truffle really likes this throw and snoozes on it a lot.

No matter where we decide it's time to snuggle, Mom Paula loves it. We hope everyone has a special snuggle with their fur child during this week of Thanksgiving and throughout the year.

Where does your cat (dog) love to snuggle with you?

  1. I OVE seeing the girls snuggling with you and reading their ways. I never knew any of this about them. They are very much their own lady cat. I enjoy seeing them showing all that love. It is such a precious gift.

  2. My cat EggNog who is over the rainbow bridge, was a feral shy kitten. She could only stay in the bathroom the first couple of weeks that she first came home or she would hide and not come out. Even as an adult, whenever she wanted to cuddle, she would visit me in the bathroom.

  3. I'm not a lap kitty either, but I like to get pets on da bed and sometimes in da living room too.

  4. It's nice to see them snuggling. Eric was a lap cat, but Flynn preferred to be picked up and cuddled. They both liked to snuggle up in the bed with us.

  5. Funny enough, I'm not a snuggler with my human! Only with patients while I'm being a therapy cat. I do LOVE being petted though.

  6. You two snuggle bugs are adorable! I only snuggle on the couch with the Mom!

  7. Chopie says, "I've been catching up on my snuggles with mom lately after my surgery. I feel so much better when she's right there." So happy to see you, too, you soft, beautiful babies!! ~ Mom Julie and kitties Chopie and Bridgie

  8. They are both such sweeties. My only lap cat out of 12 is Joanie and once in a great while Brody or Emmy. I am happy when they just sit near me.

  10. It that specific of the breed? I would not be able to resist all that gorgeous fur. YOu have to be so patient

  11. My dog will sit beside me anywhere in the house, even outside on a lawn chair! One of our cats will sit on the arm of a chair beside us, the other, sits right on top of us, as close to our face as he can get!

  12. I hope that Truffle and Brulee give you extra snuggles over this Thanksgiving! Cats are amazing and have such distinct personalities. My two cats each have their specific places and times to cuddle as well! They also know not to intrude on each other's "territory" and time with mama!

  13. So cute! I ad a persian cat years ago and she was never too much of a snuggler - wonder if that is a breed thing? My kitty now loves to snuggle with my daughter on the arm of her chair. :-)

  14. All of us are pretty snuggly just about anywhere in the house, except Caster. Caster only likes to snuggle in the middle of the night, under cover of darkness. That's when he jumps in bed with Mom and Dad and suckles on a fleecy blanket between them and makes biscuits.

  15. Oh everywhere. He's not picky about location. He's jumped onto tall ledges to solicit petting from people.

  16. My tobie cat really doesn't like to be held or petted but when she is in the mood I get the best cuddles :)

  17. So sweet! I love when animals choose to give affection after being rather independent. When Gonzo snuggles it's very special because it's not the normal behavior. So sweet.

  18. Cats! Always letting you know just when and how they want affection. It's what makes them so special. Sandra and Dolly

  19. Daffy is NOT a snuggler! She rarely comes close unless she wants food, but she is mostly always nearby. We do love her and we hope, in time, she will "love" us.

  20. I think it is so special when any pet comes up to you voluntarily for snuggle time, to me that it heart warming and of course, they are our own personal hot water bottle!

  21. I love snuggle times with all pets, they are precious moments and something to treasure

  22. Ah they're so cute! Cats definitely let you know when they want attention. I love snuggling with my pets on the couch. They always make my day a whole lot better!

  23. Your girls are so cute. Love the new look on the blog by the way for the holidays. Truffle's ways remind me of Dusty. She was much more flexible and relaxed when it came to cuddling. My cat Precious was more like Brulee, cuddle when she wants to on her terms. :) Happy Holidays.

  24. Your girls are so gorgeous- hope they give you lots of cuddles over Thanksgiving. Nala was never really a snuggler but she would suddenly decide she wanted petting and to be held when you wre watching TV or in bed or working. Or if an allergic guest was in the living room Nala could find them and sneak up to rub on them from any angle (usually from behind on top of the couch. Kilo the Pug is a true lap dog. He demands cuddles regularly through the day and loves all the sofas and beds.

  28. Two of my dogs are big cuddlers, but Sophie is a little standoffish. Lately she's been coming in when I watch TV. She lasts about 5 minutes and then she wants to go back to security dog position so she can monitor everything else.
