Dr. Strom examining Truffle |
According to the text messages Mom Paula received from the pet sitter, the girls were doing okay. Brulee was beginning to play and let BJ pet her, but Truffle was still a little standoffish. At least Truffle wasn't hiding, which she has been known to do. Mom Paula arrived home Sunday and the girls appeared fine. They were eating their treats, took a nap beside Mom Paula, and were staying near her. Later that evening, Mom Paula noticed Truffle going from one litter box to the other. She wasn't too concerned until Truffle did this several times. Upon checking the box, there didn't appear to be anything there, so Mom Paula checked Truffle's backend. There was a little mess there, but nothing major. Truffle was acting normal, eating, and drinking water, but Mom Paula was concerned.

Brulee in red Sleepypod® and Truffle in violet Sleepypod® |
Monday morning, Mom Paula called the vet and they could work us in at 11:00 am. Mom Paula gave us a lot of attention by loving on us, giving us treats, and staying close to us until about 10:15 am and then she calmly first put Truffle into her Sleepypod® and then Brulee. She let them rest in there for a few minutes while she got ready to leave. The trip to the vet was uneventful (Truffle meowed a little and Brulee curled up and took a nap). We didn't have to wait in the waiting room too long. There were two Pekingese mix dogs in the area near us, but they didn't bother us. Mom Paula even unzipped part of the top of our Sleepypods so we could stick our head out for the people in the room to see us.

Dr. Strom examines Truffle while Jamison holds her |
We had a new vet assistant this time, Jamison. He weighed Truffle and she weighed about 8.1 pounds, which is normal for her. Her temperature was slightly elevated, but he thought it may be due to some stress. Dr. Strom examined Truffle and said everything felt and sounded normal. She wasn't uncomfortable nor did he feel anything that would indicate her belly was too full. Dr. Strom believes it could be from all of the fur Truffle has swallowed with all of her shedding the past few weeks combined with a little stress with Mom Paula being gone. He encouraged Mom Paula to try and get Truffle to eat some of the hairball control treats and/or gels that are on the market. He also recommended Mom Paula put a few more Feliway diffusers throughout the house, especially when she was going to be away for a few days.

Truffle waits in her Sleepypod® while Brulee is examined |
Dr. Strom told Mom Paula to watch Truffle for a few days and if she wasn't any better, to bring her back in and he'd give her some medication.
Brulee thought with the examination of Truffle being completed that it was time to go home, but Dr. Strom noticed it was time for her bi-annual checkup, so Mom Paula agreed to let him do it. Brulee was taken out of the room for a blood withdrawal and a shot of Benadryl before receiving her rabies shot (required by law in SC).
We'll share the results of Brulee's examination in another post after we receive the results of the bloodwork.
I hope Truffle is feeling better soon. It's good that you were able to get Brulee's exam done at the same time, saves you a trip.
ReplyDeleteI hope Truffle is feeling better. I had never heard of a shot of Benadryl with a rabies shot, that sounds like a good idea.
ReplyDeletePoor girls. Glad everything is ok though
ReplyDeleteWe purr Truffle is doing well and will not have any further issues.
ReplyDeleteOur Georgia was doing the same thing and mum took her to the vet, She had a urinary infection.

Purrs Georgia,Julie and JJ
Purrs to you Truffle, it's always good to make the Vet trip just to be sure.
ReplyDeletePurrs for both your girls !
ReplyDeleteHope you're feelin better Truffle!
ReplyDeleteGirls, I hope all is well and I will be waiting to read about it. Mom needs to take me.
ReplyDeleteI hope Truffle feels better soon! I bet she was a little stressed by your going away.
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better soon, Truffle!
ReplyDeleteHoping everything is okay!
ReplyDeleteWe hope you're feeling better, Truffle ! Purrs
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have a wonderful vet; that is so important. When I had a part-Persian cat I loved having the hairball gels for her. (YAYDog Clare)
ReplyDeleteChester just had his checkup at the vet too. We didn't do a blood test this time because the vet said it wouldn't change the current treatment plan (for his old man type issues) but I plan to do another one in a month or so.
ReplyDeleteI hope Brulee's bloodwork comes back normal.
Sorry to hear Truffle is under the weather. I hope she is feeling better soon and her results come back A-OK!
ReplyDeleteI hope Truffle is feeling better soon, but I bet Brulee was thinking "hey I get off scott free today." Hope the results are good. You're fortunate to have a vet that was willing to fit you in. Keep us updated!
ReplyDeletePoor Truffle, I bet it was due to the stress of you being away. The diffuser is a great idea next time you need to travel. Extra cuddles this weekend!
ReplyDeleteLove & Biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
Truffle sorry for your stress and troubles. I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeletePoor Truffle, I hope she is feeling better, people think that cats aren't bothered whether their owners are there or not, but I don't believe that for one minute.
ReplyDeleteStress can do evil things to you, including giving you a fever for sure. And "munching" on fur can upset the belly. Glad it doesn't seem to be anything more serious than that.
ReplyDeleteFeel better Truffle ... Separation anxiety sure sucks.
ReplyDeleteI hope Truffle feels better! I know those unexpected vet trips are never fun. I had to take Echo in for a yeast infection in his ear a few weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteI hear that Truffle has to undergo surgery on Wednesday. I am sure that she is good hands. Is it my imagination or is that vet exceptionally young?...must be me getting older...lol. Stay calm...so glad you are tuned in to your kitty's routine and can quickly spot something amiss.
ReplyDeleteI hope everything is OK! Mr. N never likes it when I have to go away either. Feel better, Truffle!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like your vets are great! I think it is awesome that they could work Brulee's blood work and vaccine in while you were there. I'm hoping everything goes well for Truffle!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to have amazing vets for those "extra" visits a year. These visits can be more scary and stressful on everyone. We are thinking and praying that Truffle gets better soon! Stay strong Paula!
