Thankful Thursday

Freedom!!! These are the words Truffle used this morning when Mom Paula removed the red onesie Truffle had been wearing since last Thursday to protect her surgery incision on her belly.

Truffle isn't use to wearing clothing, collars, harnesses, or anything else on top of her Persian fur. The vet recommended the onesie instead of the dreaded collar to keep Truffle from messing with her incision.

Mom Paula must admit that Truffle did look cute in her little red onesie, but it was obvious Truffle was uncomfortable in it. The first couple of days (could also be due to the incision, anesthesia, and pain pills), Truffle would begin walking and then stop and lay on her side. Brulee also didn't like the onesie. She stayed far away from Truffle those first few days. Her sister just didn't look right...

The vet told Mom Paula she could take off the onesie on Wednesday, but since Truffle had to take additional pain pills, Mom Paula decided to wait a day. Truffle didn't receive any pain pills yesterday and was acting much better and didn't seem uncomfortable. This morning was the day to remove the onesie. Truffle was very calm (not squirming, fighting, or meowing) as it was removed. Once it was removed, you could actually see the "life" come back into her eyes. She got her morning treat, jumped off the bed to drink some water, and then began the process of "floofing" her fur back out. Mom Paula has watched Truffle closely to make sure she isn't messing with her belly.

Truffle is walking more confidently now. She ate her prescription dry kibble and some regular canned food (she still refuses any of the prescription canned food). She jumped on her cat tree in the living room to survey her kingdom. She is now resting on top of the smaller cat tree in the office (she stayed off of it when wearing the onesie). Even Brulee is staying in the same room with her now and is acting more relaxed.

We think she's back on the road to recovery now. The pet sitter has agreed to check on Truffle twice a day for the first two days Mom Paula leaves for BlogPaws next week. Mom Paula feels a little better about traveling to BlogPaws now.

Thank you again for all of your prayers, purrs, and good thoughts.

  10. None of us liked the onesie option in fact wiggle butt aka as Chimera flopped on her side and wiggled her butt right out of it. To be fair she is so small they had trouble finding one that fit her.

  11. That's great news, Truffle! You look like yourself again without that onesie on :)
