Size comparison of two stones removed from Truffle's bladder |
Dr. Boyette removed two stones from Truffle's bladder. You can see how large the larger of the two stones were compared to a dime. These stones will be sent off to the University of Minnesota for analysis. Once we receive the results, we'll have appropriate data for the next steps in preventing (hopefully) future stones. Truffle was sent home with pain medication (3 days), which she only receives once a day. I thought the pain medication would knock her out, but she's been restless and is fighting sleep. She doesn't really like the prescription food, so Mom Paula has mixed some of our regular food in it to encourage Truffle to eat. She went back to the vet today to buy a few cans of other brands and flavors/textures. Truffle is drinking water, has both peed and pooped in the litter box, and is walking around the house (not hiding).

Brulee and Truffle in front of their fountain |
Truffle is walking gingerly, which probably is a combination of soreness and the onesie. She is a little hesitant when drinking water or eating because stretching causes some discomfort. On the whole, Truffle is doing great! She doesn't want to be held yet, but she is staying close to Mom Paula.
Once we get the results back from the stones, we'll write some more detailed posts on bladder stones: causes, treatments, diets, etc.
Thank you for all of your love and support!
Rest easy pretty girl, you do look stunning in your red outfit!

Poor Truffle, that stone is huge! I am glad she is back home and doing well.
ReplyDeleteWE are all so glad you are back home where you belong Miss Truffle.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been a difficult time for Truffle. I'm glad it's over. Our cat Puck was diagnosed with crystals in his urine and was a special food but they never sent anything to a lab for analysis, as far as I know. He kept having bladder issues until he died at the vet's office. I can't help wonder if they just guessed at the type of crystals he had.
ReplyDeleteShe must feel so much better! Poor baby. Get well soon.
ReplyDeleteWow, that one stone is huge, especially when I think about how tiny Truffle is. She looks darling in the onesie. Wishing her a speedy recovery. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer
ReplyDeleteHoly smokes, that larger stone is really big. Poor Truffle. We are glad she is home, and doing better. Purrs and prayers!
ReplyDeleteFrom my own experiences with Bhu, I think this can be just as traumatic for you, Paula, as it is for Truffle! Hope you are doing okay. And what is it with vet food? My kitties NEVER like the food the Vet gives us and refuse to eat it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad the surgery part is over for sweet little Truffle. She looks so adorable in that onsie, red is definitely a great color for her! I hope the tests all come back great and that you all never have to go through that again. Hugs & Kisses to Truffle**
