Scratching and Hiding in Style - Catit®

There are so many scratchers, climbers, and beds available for cats now. The challenge is finding something that the cats will use and that the humans feel comfortable placing in major parts of the home. We tend to like items that are a little more modern and unique and we've found something we think you'll love!

We've reviewed several products from Catit® in the past and we've always loved the style, comfort, and functionality of the furniture. The Vesper™ Design line is one of our favorites and the new Vesper Minou is sure to please the cats in your life.

What is the Vesper Minou?

Brulee presenting the Vesper™ Minou (pre-assembled)

We must admit - we weren't too sure what Minou meant until we looked it up on the Internet. There are various translations from French to English, but basically minou means kitty cat. It makes a lot of sense that this piece of furniture from Vesper would be called the Minou because the entrance and exit have ears and a tail and cats LOVE it!

The Vesper Minou is a high-quality bench, scratcher, and hideout. There are two entrances in the hideout to help your cat feel safe and not cornered when inside. The structure is made of high-quality MDF with oak-look laminate finish. There is a replaceable sisal scratching mat wrapped around the top and sides of the minou which encourages cats to scratch on it instead of your furniture. There is a comfortable memory-foam cushion inside the minou that fits to your cat's body shape when she rests on it.

As soon as I pulled the pieces out of the box, Brulee claimed the sisal scratching mat and Truffle claimed the memory-foam cushion.

Assembly

There are only a few main parts of the Vesper Minou and I was able to put it together within an hour, using the instruction sheet provided in the box. The only tool you need is a phillips-head screwdriver, but there is one included in the packet with the screws. I only got confused with the smaller pieces in Step 2 and then I watched the instructional video on the website and everything was clear. The Minou is sturdy and blends in with my home well.

Of course, it helps to have two furry little assistants showing me what I should be doing!

Truffle and Brulee assisting with the assembly of the Catit® Vesper™ Minou

The challenge with the assembly was my two assistants: Truffle and  Brulee. You can imagine the challenges assembling the Minou with two curious cats with an empty box, plastic, papers, sisal, a memory foam cushion, and me on the floor

Comfortable Hideaway Bed

Both Truffle and Brulee went inside to rest as soon as the Vesper Minou was completed

As soon as I completed the assembly of the Vesper Minou, Truffle was the first to climb inside. She thought she was in a safe haven until her sister, Brulee decided she wanted inside, too. I think Truffle must have given Brulee the "evil" look because Brulee didn't continue climbing into the Minou until Truffle left. When Truffle came outside and jumped on the top to scratch on the sisal mat, Brulee climbed inside. I must admit this is one of the first pieces of furniture that is also a bed and scratcher that both girls reacted so positively and quickly to. I haven't decided where to put the Minou in the house  yet, but will probably move it to my home office once I complete the purge of old work stuff and convert it into a catified home office.

I thought I'd completed all of the photos for this post earlier in the evening last night, but I heard something behind my chair when I was watching TV and turned around and saw the girls both using the Vesper Minou together. I had to grab my cell phone and in "less than desirable" light, I shot this photo. I think this proves how much both Truffle and Brulee love the Vesper Minou.

  2. Lucky for Mom Peggy I scratch appropriately on the posts here. Since Mom Paula has stayed with us before, she knows how well this will fit in with our decor.

  3. I have a scratching post they both use and a cat condo that they also use to scratch. They take turns sleeping on the top of the cat condo, which is 4' high.

  4. That looks like a nice piece, very stylish.

  5. That's really cute! I woudln't have much use for it as I don't have cats. I have to admit though, I use a Catit brand pet fountain for my small dogs. Shh, we don't tell them it was made for cats.

  6. That's adorable, I could see my fosters putting it to good use, and everyone would love the scratcher. Mostly the cats use the many scratchers around the house. Occasionally the rug or a pillow get it but they're pretty well behaved especially since I keep their claws cut regularly. As for sleeping its anywhere and everywhere in the house particularly with their human if possible.

  7. My 3 cats sleep just about anywhere. They love their old cat tree in front of the window, the dogs bed and even my bed. I even find them in or on top of boxes taking a nap all the time.

  8. My cat sure does, he did some damage to my sofa, oh well .. :p

  9. I have two cats: the older likes to rest in various places depending on the time of day (sometimes at the top of his cat tower, other times on the soft, but always in his bed ad night). He scratches on his cat trees/towers.

The other likes to rest wherever I am (my desk, the sofa) and scratches on the posts of his cat tree/tower.

  16. So cute! My cat loves to rest on her bed or on the couch. She likes to scratch on her scratching post.

  17. Lately, Marceline likes to hide in my top dresser drawer and "knead" the scarves in there

  18. Excellent team work, Girls! Bear's a big fan of cat beds and Ellie's obsessed with scratchers.

  19. Our cats will try to scratch the furniture so I am always looking for alternatives for them to use for scratching. They also LOVE having little hiding places, so this would serve double duty. Since my daughter and her boyfriend moved out and into their own place, taking their combined three cats with them, I am down to my two - Moko, who is a senior with some health issues (and would go nuts for the hiding place in this) and Kotoha, who I found two years ago when she was just two weeks old and had to be bottle fed. She's missing my daughter's cat and I've noticed is wanting to scratch more than usual. This would give her an outlet for the stress I know she's feeling.

  20. I love it a hide away bed which is just adorable, Layla has her hideaway bed here in the house which she loves and that it is easy to put together is even better

  21. That is so cute! My cat slept in the dog bed with my dogs or the sofa. I think he might have liked something like this, although he never enjoyed boxes. If I win, I'll give it to my sister's new kitten.

  22. What a great product and giveaway. Entered! I think my foster cats will love this. I love the contemporary looking design with the cat ear and the fact that it's designed with a space to hide in mind. This is definitely a winner if Truffle and Brulee are hanging out together on it. ;)

  23. What a gorgeous multi-functional piece of cat furniture! I love your final photo shot in that "less than desirable" lighting. Clearly both girls are loving the Vesper Minou. Good thing each has her own favorite texture! Of course, it's so attractive who would mind having two of these bed/scratchers around the house?

  24. Isn't this THE most stylish cat scratcher! It is furniture as much as its a scratch post it will give every room an instant style upgrade!

  25. That Catit Vesper Minou is great! We love that sisal mat on the outside!

  35. I would love to win this for my boys!

  36. My cats love to scratch the couch.

  37. Pipo loves to 'rest' on the top of pawppy's recliner, or in the cubby/shelf of petcetary's desk. Even though there is a tall scratcher right beside it, he wants to scratch on the book case or even the books' spines...what a silly dude he can be.

  38. It looks like the Catit is a bit hit with Truffle and Brûlée! I don't have a Catit, but I do have a couple of cardboard scratchers. Even though they are a bit old and tattered looking, I still use them for scratching and napping on. But Mom put them away a month ago when she cleaned house. I hope she gets them out again. A kitty can never have too many scratchers.

  39. right now my cat loves to scratch my door frames and its driving me crazy. he has a cat tower but im thinking maybe he doesn't like the rug material.
