Play and Relax with Jackson Galaxy™ Toys from Petmate®

Everyone thinks Persian Cats like to rest on their pedestals all day being admired! Well, that's partly true! However, the Silver Shaded Persian breed likes to play. The challenge is finding something both girls will interact with to help keep them young and healthy, since they have different interests.

We're beginning 2019 with an exciting feature of some Jackson Galaxy™ items from Petmate®.

We've shared posts about the wonderful items from Jackson Galaxy in the past (June 2017, September 2017December 2017, June 2018, and August 2018) and we've always been impressed with the quality and appropriateness of his items that are specifically designed for felines. Jackson's items are developed to tap into a cat's natural instincts to bring out her behavior. His toys are designed to satisfy every cat's personality and bring maximum catification to your home. We watch My Cat From Hell, starring Jackson Galaxy, every time it shows on TV (we even record the shows). Even though we are not behavior problems, Mom Paula has learned strategies to help us have better quality lives. She learned that when Truffle begins sauntering into the living room toward a sleeping Brulee that it means Truffle needs to play. After watching the show and actually talking with Jackson Galaxy, Mom Paula now pulls out an interactive toy to redirect Truffle's attention away from Brulee.

We were happy to receive three new items in the Jackson Galaxy Collection to review: the Constellation Convertible Scratcher, the Ground Prey Wand, and the Air Prey Wand.

Jackson Galaxy™ Air Prey Wand

Brulee is our little cobby Persian Cat. Cobby means a cat has a compact body, a deep chest, short legs, and a broad head. When a cat has a cobby body type, people assume they are heavy-set due to their short and wide bodies, but this doesn't necessarily mean they are fat. I never realized Persian cats with this type of body liked to jump, leap, and climb like Brulee does because my previous Persian cat was more of a "land dweller."

Brulee prefers interactive wand toys that she can chase across the room and over the furniture and up the tree. The Jackson Galaxy Air Prey Wand was perfect for Brulee. I'd watched Jackson pull out his extendable wand toys on the TV show and was very interested how they would work for Brulee. The Jackson Galaxy wand toys are designed with a unique telescoping function and interchangeable toys. The Air Prey Wand satisfies the play needs of cats that prefer chasing birds (or other flying critters) and flying objects. Brulee was immediately attracted to both the large plastic feathers and the smaller features and chased it across the bed when I first pulled it out. The telescoping feature of this wand allows you to make the handle longer or shorter to help direct the play. I wish I could share Brulee jumping in the air as she chases the Air Prey Wand.

Jackson Galaxy™ Ground Prey Wand

I was amazed how quickly both girls began playing with the Jackson Galaxy Ground Prey Wand. Truffle prefers to chase toys on the ground where she can hide behind things before pouncing. The Ground Prey Wand is great for cats that love chasing creatures that scurry on the floor. Even Brulee was interested as the "caterpiller-like" toy moved across the ground and scratchers. What was funny was hearing the snorting coming from this beautiful Persian cat as she chased the toy. I kept trying to get a photo of both of the girls with the toy in their mouths! Seeing a flat-faced Persian carrying a toy is so funny! The Ground Prey Wand has various replacement "prey" toys you can use on the wand.

I know it's easier for us caregivers to throw a toy on the floor and hope our cats will entertain themselves, but that isn't enough. Cats need to satisfy their natural instincts to hunt and capture prey. Wand toys are perfect for this need because you can move the wand in rapid and random movements to keep your cat interested. The best thing is your cat has the satisfaction of actually capturing her prey! Interactive play also strengthens the bond with your cat. My girls' eyes get even larger when they see me moving towards the shelf where the wands are located and they immediately begin crouching down, ready for the hunt.

Jackson Galaxy™ Constellation Convertible Scratcher

This was one of the girls' and my favorite items from the Jackson Galaxy Collection from Petmate. I have all of these fancy scratchers around my home, but I'm amazed at how much they love to rest on and scratch corrugated scratchers. The Constellation Convertible Scratcher can be set up in numerous ways to satisfy the scratching and resting needs of your cats. I've tried to share various positions in the photos on this post. You'll see more of this scratcher in future photos!

  1. My 3 cats all play a little different. My oldest cat Julius is pretty lazy but will occasionally play fetch with bottle caps and hair ties. My other two cats Diego and Charlie love to climb, scratch, and chase wand toys.

  2. My senior is odd. I'm always looking for things that interest him. He'll play with the laser for a little while...same with a wand with something attached to it. He likes to find me when I hide and call him (he meows when he finds me) and loves to pay in running water.

  4. Get well wishes, Paula ... I would say for a "quick recovery" but that doesn't seem to be happening unfortunately ... purr-haps from this day forward, hopefully, things will improve
for you. Purrs 'n' prayers friend!

  7. Just look at these goodies! Scratchers are always a huge hit at our house, and this one here looks like all sorts of fun. We have some other Jackson Galaxy toys, and they are huge hits at our house. The Jackson Galaxy Space Station is especially very popular with all of the kitties. Purrs!

  13. Rosie and Ruby don't really play much, but our new kitty Teddy is young and so energetic. I think he would really like the air wand and the scratcher - though he is a big boy so hopefully he would fit on it!

  14. I am so amazed at the cat toys they have today compared to 30 years ago when I did have cats and only wish I would have had them then. This looks like so much fun

  15. LOL I love that Brulee enjoys romping and playing. So funny to hear about your previous cat being a "land dweller." Jackson Galaxy has a great selection of items for cats.

  16. Looks like fun! I'll leave the giveaway to the people with cats, lol, since I just have my puppers. Just make sure to supervise play with the Jackson Galaxy toys (all toys really), because I know someone whose cat had to have emergency surgery after she swallowed a piece of a Jackson Galaxy toy and it caused impaction.

    1. I'm very careful with the toys I leave out. The wand toys with strings and toys with feathers are always put away.

  18. What a great giveaway. I'm a Jackson Galaxy fan too. I love that show "My Cat from Hell" too. Often times a lot of the behavior problems the cats have are due to boredom and lack of interaction. Jackson often whips out one of his toys to get the cats engages and they really do work. You're girls are so pretty while they play. Looks like Jackson's done it again! 4 paws up. I really like the design of that scratcher too. Good luck to the participants.

  20. Wow, Jackson Galaxy has some awesome things - knows kitties very well! I'm going to share the giveaway with my cat-loving pals, and my neighbor (whose cat loves to come in our doggy door and make herself at home)!

  21. The laser pointer is always a good toy. It is best to let them end up "catching" something at the end of play, though.

  24. Ours adore laser pointers. Totally a favourite toy, and interestingly a pet behaviourist recommended to us that you give your cat a treat, you don't just stop playing. They need to catch their prey.

  25. My sister's kitten plays in so many ways. He loves to bat things around as well as jump up and try to catch the toy on the wand.

  26. I don't know about the galaxy pattern but I do love the product design and functionality.

  27. My cat likes to play with lots of different types of toys.

  28. My two girls like to play in a variety of ways. They love to play with each other by chasing and wrestling. They love to bat toys around on their own, they also love the toy that's a circle with a scratching pad in the center and a ball on a track around the rim and they love when I take out any of the wand toys to play with them.

  30. Oh how I'd luv to play with Truffle and Brûlée! I have a pawful of wand toys that I like very much. I pounce on them and spring in the air after them. Santa got me a new one at Christmas time that has bright purple danglies with bright green feathers. Winks.

  32. Oh, my, Brulee is having so much fun in the video playing with the wand! So neat to watch! And the galaxy cat scratcher is out of this world (I couldn't resist)! What a super nice scratcher.Since our Binx still is skittish, even though he has been with us for 7 years now (with an occasional mysterious jaunt elsewhere), he does not really play, but does loves things to scratch and rub up on! My adopted feral would love that scratcher! Thanks for the great review!
