Brulee taking an afternoon nap |
Cats are most active between dusk and dawn, which means they sleep mostly during the day and become active around twilight.
Cats are similar to people because they either doze in a light sleep or sleep very deeply. When your cat dozes (which lasts about fifteen minutes to a half hour), she will position her body so that she can spring up and into action at a moment’s notice.
We humans should be so lucky to be able to nap and sleep like our feline companions. Many of our friends lost an hour of sleep yesterday due to Daylight Savings Time where we had to push our clocks ahead one hour when we went to bed Saturday night. Dr. William Anthony (Boston University Professor) and his wife, Camille Anthony, created National Napping Day in 1999 as an effort to spotlight the health benefits for catching up on quality sleep. They chose the Monday after Daylight Savings Time because Americans are more "nap-ready" than usual after losing an hour of sleep. Many cultures take mid-afternoon naps and scientists have proven that a short 20-minute nap can be good for you.
We hope you enjoy a restful nap with your feline today.

Awww, so cute you are. I wish I could sleep in all the positions kitties sleep in. They are ever so agile.

That sure is a cutie snoozy! One thing you can count on...counting us in on the nap thing!
ReplyDeleteEvery day is napping day for us cats. But it’s nice to have a day to celebrate it.
ReplyDeleteWe're like the Island cats--every day is napping day!
ReplyDeleteI missed this day! I must have been napping. ;-)
ReplyDeleteNapping makes the world go 'round ... even for humans!
ReplyDeleteNow I never knew that. Well I shall be actively encouraging my staff to have naps from now on, as I can't see that it will hurt them and may increase food service delivery between dusk and dawn.

Oh no, and I missed it. And I could so go for a nap. Well, don't have time anyway. So hopefully next year, LOL
ReplyDeleteSo precious! We love nap (every)day here! Zzzzzzz....
ReplyDeleteMy dad never changed the bedroom clock back in fall, so when Daylight Savings Time came this spring the time remained the same! Isn't that silly?! I don't know why humans worry about time so-o very much. I would luv to curl up and take a nap with you any day, sweet pal.
