Truffle eating the rabbit recipe of Hound & Gatos® |
We received samples of the rabbit, chicken & liver, and lamb & liver recipes to sample. The first recipe the girls tried was the rabbit. Rabbit is a new protein I began feeding the girls about two years ago and they tend to enjoy the flavor. The Hound & Gatos 98% Rabbit is a pate. Both girls were interested in the food as soon as I put in in their bowls. Truffle cleaned her plate while Brulee licked at it a little. Truffle tends to eat almost any type of wet cat food I give her because she "bites" into her food to eat. Brulee has a little flatter face and tends to eat by picking up her food with the underside of her tongue, which is pretty normal for Persian Cats. Brulee tends to prefer wet food with a little more gravy and smaller pieces. In order to encourage her to eat this food, I added some toppers to the food and she did eat it.

Truffle eating the lamb & liver recipe |
I'd never fed lamb to the girls before so I was very interested to see what they thought. Truffle loved it, while Brulee just stared at it. Once again, when I added a "topper" Brulee did eat it. She's just very finicky about the texture of her food and it has nothing to do with the quality or flavor of the recipe. The first three ingredients of the lamb & liver recipe are lamb, lamb broth, and lamb liver. The chicken & liver was also a hit. Each of these recipes is in a 5.5 oz can. I wish there were smaller cans because my girls don't eat much and refuse to eat food after it's been in the refrigerator. This is definitely a high-quality wet cat food that I hope to continue feeding my two Persian cats. Hound & Gatos also makes a dry kibble that we'll review in a later post this month.
All of the Hound & Gatos diets use animal ingredients as the main protein source to mimic an ancestral diet and the wet recipes are at least 98% meat. The #1 ingredient in their formulas is always real meat. They never use plant proteins like peas, chickpeas, or lentils, which is something other manufacturers may use to boost protein levels at a lower cost.
Hound & Gatos also makes food for dogs in both a wet and dry formula.

I've heard great things about this food!
ReplyDeleteOh, wow. I would definitely want Casper and Butterscotch to try the salmon, mackerel and sardine flavor first. And by "Casper and Butterscotch," I mean I would shamelessly try it first because it sounds utterly delicious.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't heard of this brand before but it sounds good. We'd likely try the rabbit.
ReplyDeleteThe Hubby just mentioned that it's time to search for another food for the kitties, so this is great timing. I haven't heard of this brand before.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds quite interesting, we hadn't heard of that one yet.
ReplyDeleteWe’ve eaten Hounds & Gatos. It’s good stuff.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a a good food.
ReplyDeleteYou kitties are beautiful spokescats! Thanks for bringing this food to our attention, it look like you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI would probably like to try the rabbit as it is a pate, which is what I like plus the fact that Truffle cleaned her plate.
ReplyDeleteI would like my cat to try the salmon, mackerel & sardine because he enjoys seafood and hasn't had this combo yet.
ReplyDeleteMy cat would love the lamb, chicken & salmon!
ReplyDeleteI would want to try duck and liver since my cats love anything with lover and duck is a good protein.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I want some of those noms! Mom says, "Valentine is very finicky, too, about food being refrigerated if left in the can. I discovered that if I spoon it out into a glass or ceramic container with lid, then he'll usually eat it. I also warm refrigerated moist food in the microwave about 4 seconds before serving it to him. You might try those options with Brûlée if you haven't already."
ReplyDeleteI would like the turkey or ducks protein both with liver for my cat. He eats literally any flavor/texture but I like the ingredients a lot in those varieties.
ReplyDeleteI think the duck & liver sounds delicious to me; I'd hope the cat would agree.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this company but I think that is because I make Layla's food which works for her. She loves lamb and am happy your cats loved it also, it is a great protein to give them. As for picky eaters, welcome to my world of Madam Picky Eater lol
ReplyDeleteInteresting that adding just a topper made a difference to the texture. It is something I need to monitor more.
ReplyDeleteThis looks top quality food! I am glad the girls like it!
Yummy! Good luck to everyone.
ReplyDeleteWe could never keep this brand in stock when I ran my store, great product. I love their new look. Plush hopes we have good luck in the giveaway- he hates pate food but he loves the turkey duck and rabbit flavors of HG if I add water and mush it up for him. The perils of feeding Persians lol.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this brand! And they have rabbit, which is such a great protein. Will share with our kitty fans!
ReplyDeleteGood to see. I don't see a good rationale to feed high amounts of grains to dogs, never mind cats.
ReplyDeleteThis brand is new to me, and it sounds like something my sister's cat would love. She would probably choose the chicken and liver for her cat.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a delish cat food! I never thought about cats eating lamb! Some lucky kitty is going to enjoy that giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy cats have never tried this food. Never heard of it, but it sounds like a pretty decent brand. Little skeptical about the pate style, as my 1 cat that I think will eat this food isn't a huge fan of it. However, if we did win, I think we would want to try the gamebird poultry.
ReplyDeleteI would like to try different proteins such as rabbit that my animals would be less likely to be allergic to
ReplyDeleteFor my cats I'd go with the chicken - my Moko has become very picky about what she will eat but still absolutely loves her chicken. As for the dogs, I like trying more exotic proteins (like the gamebird or rabbit)
ReplyDeletei never heard of this brand but I'd like to try the chicken and liver. TY!
ReplyDeleteI would like to try the Rabbit as I've heard that's a good one for cats that may have allergies to other foods (and I suspect my oldest cat might have them).
ReplyDeleteI'd like my dog to try salmon, I hear it has a lot of benefits.
ReplyDeleteMy cats prefer chicken so we would love the cage free chicken!
ReplyDeleteI love that they don't add legumes which are linked to heart issues with dogs. My dog would like the rabbit or any fish.
