Winter can be a beautiful time of the year with the holidays and snowfall. However, these events can be a stressful and dangerous time of the year for our feline companions. Even if your cat stays indoors, you should provide a safe place for your cat to feel comfortable for both the cold weather and the festivities of the holidays.

Cats need places to climb to the top to survey their domain, to hide for escape for the environment, and to scratch. There are several types of furniture that provide these individual needs, but it's even better when a piece of furniture provides all of this in one piece!
Did you know cats are most active at dawn and dusk? This is one reason cats should be fed in the morning and evening. After a good meal, cats tend to sleep better too, so it's important to feed her something she will eat and that is good for her.
Truffle and Brulee are fed a variety of proteins and textures each day. One reason for this is to keep them from getting finicky and varying the protein (aka rotational diet) makes it easier to change food in the future, should your cat have a need for a special diet. I've also had issues in the past where a company changed the recipe for a product and my cat wouldn't eat it. I'm always searching for high-quality food that is good for my cats and that they will eat.
Staying at home and indoors this last year due to the pandemic has caused me to realize the air in my home isn't as pure as it should be. Sure, I change out the air filters twice a year, but there is so much dust and odor inside and it's terrible for both my cats and me. I have terrible allergies and Brulee (one of my cats) also tends to sneeze a lot. Perhaps, the use of an air purifier would help enhance my home with fresh air so both my cats and myself can breathe a little easier.

Can you believe Brulee is 9 years old today?
We can't! It seems like it was only yesterday when we received those photos of Brulee with her litter mates on the day she was born.
Today is International Cat Day (aka World Cat Day). Cats should be celebrated everyday no matter where they live or who they are. This day is set aside to share our passion for cats and learn more about this captivating species. The day highlights the fact that there is no ‘one size fits all’ in cats. Just as there are cats that thrive as pets, others may never adapt to living alongside humans, no matter how much love we give them. Each cat is an individual and for International Cat Day, we want all cats to be happy cats.
I've grown up with pets most of my life. My first pet was a beautiful Rough Collie named Tiny. We later had a Cocker Spaniel and two Pekingeses. I look back on the joys of sharing the first twenty years of my life with these wonderful canine companions. However, it wasn't until I experienced the soft touch of a cat's furry paw on my hand and face that I realized the comfort and peace one receives when sharing their home with a feline.

We live in South Carolina and during the last five years, we've experienced four hurricanes, an average of fourteen tornadoes per year (23 in one day in April 2020), earthquakes (average of 10-15 per year below magnitude 3, and a 1000-year flood in October 2015. Luckily, none of these events have directly effected us personally, but we need to be prepared with these type of statistics! Today is Veterinary Appreciation Day™. It continues to amaze me how much veterinarians do for our furry companions to help them stay well since our cats cannot verbally tell them what is wrong.
Even though the Summer Solstice hasn't arrived yet, the heat wave is already here, especially in the South where we live! We've already had nine days in May and early June with temperatures in the 90s. Have you ever wondered how cats with furry coats keep cool or how we, as humans, can help them maintain a comfortable temperature?
We've shared many posts about the importance of taking your cats to the veterinarian at least once a year for wellness checkups. We even talked about the importance of vaccinations last year on our World Veterinary Day post. We'd like to share a little more detail about the most common vaccination - FVRCP. This vaccination helps prevent many viruses that may occur in felines.
