We've shared information about several products from Catit® in the past and we've always been impressed with the design, quality, and functionality.
As we discussed in our blog post about Catification, we should provide furniture and pieces for our felines that meet their need to climb, scratch, and hide. We admired the Catit Vesper™ High Base XL at the last couple of Global Pet Expos Mom Paula attended and were thrilled when Catit allowed us to receive one to review.

What is the Vesper High Base XL?
The Vesper™ High Base XL is a high-rise cat scratching post and lookout with five levels. The High Base XL is the ideal cat tree for cats who are tree-dwellers and love to perch up high and for land-dwellers who prefer something close to the ground. There is a den with two entrances where you cat can "hide" and not feel cornered because there is an escape on both sides should she feel threatened. The High Base XL includes several seagrass scratching posts to help satisfy the need to scratch and your cat can stretch to her full height with a couple of the posts. Memory foam cushions and scratching mats are included on many of the levels. The seagrass posts, scratchy sisal pads, and memory foam carpets can all be replaced, if needed. The Vesper High Base XL is 62.2" tall with a sturdy base (22.8" x 30.5"). The High Base is made of high-quality MDF with walnut-look laminate finish. It retails at $189.99, but is currently on sale on the Catit website for $161.49.![]() |
Truffle and Brulee watching the world go by on different levels of the Vesper High Base XL Cat Tree |
Our Review
The box was pretty heavy, so be prepared to have someone help you bring it inside and move it to the chosen location in your home. I had to slide it across the floor to move it from the front of the house to the guest bedroom. There were not small pieces to put together (except the screws and other attachments needed). There were instructional diagrams to help put the Vesper High Base XL together. A small Phillips-head screwdriver/Allen wrench is included in the box to help put the tree together. I chose to use a battery-operated screwdriver to put the tree together because of the arthritis in my hands. I only messed up once and it was my fault - I didn't look at the diagram closely enough and turned a platform the wrong direction. All-in-all, it took me about 1 hour to put it together.
It didn't take long for both Truffle and Brulee to scratch the seagrass posts and climb to their chosen level on the tree. I like how the various levels were not "stacked" on top of each other. They were at an angle which makes it easier for my two Persian cats to judge the climb down with their flat faces. I've always been concerned with traditional cat trees because my cats could always climb to the top easily enough, but the bases weren't angled enough. I had to put an old tree beside a new one I had because Brulee didn't have good depth perception to climb down. They had no problems getting down from the High Base XL.

I love the design of the Vesper furniture and the Vesper High Base XL is no exception. It's made of a simple geometric design which gives it a modern appeal and should blend in with any decor in your home. The cat tree is probably appropriate for the average sized cat. The memory-foam cushions as attached with velcro which makes them easy to attach and easy to remove for cleaning. This cat tree appears to be pretty sturdy, but if you have larger cats or multiple cats that like to run and jump on the tree, you may need to anchor it.
We're excited to announce that one of our readers has the opportunity to win a Catit Vesper High Base XL. No purchase necessary. The giveaway is open to residents of the United States 18+ years, except where prohibited by law. The giveaway will run from January 2 - 12, 2020, ending at 11:59 pm ET. ReplyDeleteWith my big crowd I never have enough trees. I love Catit products. I would love ❤️ to win this for Plush and Treeno especially. Plush has similar issues to Brûlée - and Treeno’s going on 14. I can see him get to the first level of our current tree and have to really prepare for the jump straight up.
ReplyDeleteArchie's cat tree has seen better days. He is pretty rough on it. I had to stabilize it last year because he had weakened it jumping up and down. He is a big tabby with some maine coon in there. We have a lot of cat tree play time. I pitch toys at levels he isn't on so he can attack them from above or below.
ReplyDeleteI do not have a cat tree yet. We are looking for one because our cat likes to go on shelves in the closet and sleep.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful cat tree. I never thought about having the different levels at angles so the cat could see them better.
ReplyDeletemy cat would love this cat tree

ReplyDeleteWhat a cool tree! Since we just one the nest egg, we won't enter this to give someone else a chance.
ReplyDeleteThat tree looks like it is almost as good as the real things outside. I've been trying out a carpeted tree to that was shipped to me a week or so ago from another company. Of the two, I think I'd prefer the one you have. Winks.
ReplyDeleteI'm supposed to be trying out a carpeted tree, too, that arrived for me a week or so ago. It is from a different company than yours. I think of the two, I'd prefer the one you got. Winks.
