Working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging in many ways. For the first time, many of us are experiencing the daily lives of our cats and seeing their daily routines. Cats tend to dislike having their routines changed, so having someone home 24-hours a day may be challenging for both your feline companion and you. One of the challenges is being able to work on your computer with a curious cat nearby because she always wants to rest on your keyboard or in front of the monitor.

Truffle investigating the new Desk Topper from Purrniture |
While watching the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) Meowy Hour, I was intrigued when the representative from Purrniture™ was a guest and the Desk Topper was featured. The cats appeared to love the product. I'd won a small item during this webinar and the PR representative reached out to me to see if I'd like to receive a Desk Topper for my two cats to try out. I responded with a quick "yes!"
Purrniture™ Cat Furniture, Inc.
Before talking about the Desk Topper, let's learn a little more about the company. Purrniture was founded by Darryl Michaelson in 1991, after discovering the only cat furniture he could find was cheap, unsteady, and not designed with the cat's comfort and usage in mind. He decided to build his own - furniture that was sturdy, well-designed, and something cats would utilize. Darryl said he spent a weekend trying to build something big enough and interesting so his cats would actually use and enjoy it. In order to keep the costs low, he found ways to source materials for free. He would search through business dumpsters and construction sites for wood, paper companies for tubes and areas carpet stores for remnants. After 30 years, Darryl still gets much of his materials from discards of companies, but he now works with them to avoid "dumpster diving."

His sole motivation for the furniture designs he builds is to accommodate cats! He believes that once you decide on the appropriate piece of furniture, you should put it in the proper spot to be used effectively by your cat. Cat furniture should be put in a room that is used most frequently by you and ideally in front of a window. Darryl studied cat behavior for years to make sure any sized cat could fully use his cat towers and accessories.
Purrniture cat towers are never shipped in small boxes where you must put it together. There are several designs of furniture already constructed that you can choose from or you can get a custom-designed piece of cat furniture that is handcrafted to your specifications for your specific cat. In 30+ years, Darryl says he's only received 14 returns in the store's history!
Desk Topper
The Desk Topper is a round bed that is 15 inches in diameter with a 1 1/2 inch lip. It reminds one of the top bed on traditional cat trees. It is covered in carpet and is small enough to fit on your desk or other area your cat likes to rest. The size is ideal for most cats and kittens. The desk topper allows your cat to spend special time with you while you work at your desk or are watching TV (put on a table or shelf).

Truffle claiming the Desk Topper for her nap |
Review
The Desk Topper came right out of the box, ready to use! There was no assembly required. The piece of furniture is sturdy and well put together. The only work I had to do was to clean off my desk to find a place to put the bed. I received 2 Desk Toppers - one for each of my cats. My current desk isn't big enough to hold both beds, but as I'm rearranging my home office, there will be additional space to put the second Desk Topper. Truffle climbed right into the Desk Topper and watches me work on the computer and takes a few cat naps during my work sessions. Both Truffle and Brulee like to rest in the Desk Topper, so I need to get another space cleared off for them. The girls like to sit, curl up into a ball, or spread out in the Desk Topper.
I only have praises for the Desk Topper because both my cats love it. I'm so impressed with the quality of the work and the reasonable prices for functional and sturdy furniture my cats enjoy and use.
You can find additional items for your cats on the Purrniture website. There are pieces for the wall, pedestals, steps, cubbies, trees, and toys available.

On my laptop lol or right in my lap. :)
ReplyDeleteLexy needs that! Maybe then she won't sleep on Mommy's laptop.
ReplyDeleteOn my lap!
ReplyDeleteThat is very nice but we only use a laptop these days. We're headed over to check out their goodies!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteDuring the day, my Kotoha likes to sit on her window seat in my TV/reading room. She can see me and when she wants attention come to me. However, once it's too dark and Bird and Squirrel TV are off the air for the night, she likes to be by me. Either on the couch next to me or trying to get on my laptop while I'm using it.
ReplyDeleteMy human keeps her desk so cluttered there is no place for me! Maybe something like this would inspire her to make some room
ReplyDeleteWe have three cats and two in particular like to be close when we are on our computers. And with two kids doing distance learning right now, there is almost always someone on their computer!
ReplyDeleteLaila likes to lay on the floor at my feet. This great desk topper would work wonderfully on the floor too! Great review!
ReplyDeleteMy foster kittens have to be as close as possible to me, they lay on keyboards or on my papers. This would be great to have a designated spot for them!
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't fit on my desk. Nor would the cats sit in it. They prefer to be between me and the keyboard!
ReplyDeleteThat's a cool idea. There's no room on Mom's desk for one.
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
We think that is quite interesting. Mama would need a bigger desk but that can be arranged. MOL!
ReplyDeleteon my lap if she would sit still and not put her paws on the keyboard or swat me with her tail.
ReplyDeleteMy one cat likes to sit in the chair with me. Kinda gets annoying. Lol.
ReplyDeleteYears ago when I had a laptop as my primary computer, I finally put a cat bed next to it because Bear was so insistent on plopping down on the keyboard. He used the bed for about five minutes - and then was back to wreaking havoc on my poor laptop. Gotta love them!
ReplyDeleteGoodness what a good idea! We have a round crochet cat bed on the desk but were thinking of adding something else as frequently there are two visitors to see what is happening on the screen. Super! Brulee a special day is coming up right?
ReplyDeleteThis is great. This is one of those inventions that make you ask yourself, " Why hasn't anyone thought of this ages ago?!" I love that your girls love the Desk Topper. Now they can supervise from up close.
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea and awesome that they can lie comfortably on the desk while you work
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique product! They're totally missing out by only marketing it to cat owners, lol. My small dogs would totally love this. My younger dog especially loves laying on blankets on top of my desk to keep me company while I work. He'd love this!
ReplyDeleteMr. N likes to sleep on the bed and supervise. I think he'd like to hang out on the desk. Currently, he thinks the office is boring!
ReplyDeleteAah, looks good. Did you test whether it keeps the cats off your laptop? :-)
ReplyDeleteThe desk topper bed looks awesome! My cat niece will love it I think I’m going to get one for her for a Christmas present!
ReplyDeleteI love that bed it looks comfortable but still compact. You must be thrilled the girl can snuggle so close (a bonus I am guessing is that it's better than them lying across your keyboard!!!) The photo of Truffle is totally gorgeous and should sell a zillion cosy cat beds!!
ReplyDeleteTruffle and Brûlée sure look quite purrleased with their new bed. Me and my fursibs don't use the round bed Mom bought earlier this year, but it is of a different brand. We just might use one like you have. Winks.
ReplyDeleteCats like soft bed and furniture for their soft skin. we must provide them with the soft bed and other things in order to keep our cat happy.
