Peek-a-Bird Electronic Cat Toy

Cats need stimulation and enrichment in their environment to stay healthy and happy. Ideally, one should play with their cat on a daily basis with interactive play, such using a wand toy. However, having a cat toy that allows your cat to hunt and capture that is automatic can assist with keeping your cat entertained and you from getting tired.

The PetSafe® Peek-a-Bird™ Electronic Cat Toy is designed to provide hours of enticing playtime for your cat. It has two different play modes: One-Time-Play and Play-All-Day.

One-Time-Play Mode

The One-Time-Play Mode, the toy plays for 10 minutes and then shuts off automatically to conserve battery life. This is the mode one should use if your cat needs to be supervised while playing.

Play-All-Day Mode

The Play-All-Day Mode allows your cat to play all day, especially when they are alone at home. In this mode, the toy will play for 10 minutes, then rest for 2 hours before it begins again. During the 2-hour rest period, if the motion sensor picks up movement from your cat, it automatically begins to play again.

Our Review

As soon as I turned on the Peek-A-Bird Electronic Cat toy and the bird chirped, my two laid-back Persian cats were immediately intrigued. Truffle was the first to show interest, but became bored after a few minutes. This could have been because she was in the middle of a nap when I turned it on. Brulee jumped down from her cat tree and peeked up from the floor to see what was making the noise and what Truffle was playing with. Both cats enjoyed the feather because it was something they could easily "capture." Luckily, my two cats aren't too rough with toys, so I wasn't worried about them tearing apart the feather during supervised play. If you have a larger and more active cat, you need keep a watchful eye on them because they could tear up the feathers. Brulee loves feathers and I'm sure if I left her alone with this toy, she would grab the feather and drag it around the house. She has destroyed toys with feathers in the past and eaten some of the feather, so I don't leave any toys out that have feather on them. There is a replacement feather included in the box and PetSafe is working on providing additional feathers for purchase. I'd strongly encourage anyone to monitor their cat with this toy for a few days to see how they react to it before using the Play-All-Day mode.

The toy appears very sturdy and worked well straight out of the box. I'll continue letting Truffle and Brulee play with it, especially when they get rambunctious with each other.

  10. I love seeing kitties playing with different enrichment items. I know with my own kitty that feather would definitely be very exciting, but we would also put it away if we weren't directly monitoring her - Luna loves chewing on feathers.
