One of the first items needed when a new cat is brought home is a carrier. There are many styles, sizes, shapes, and materials available, so which one is the best for your cat? It's important to have a carrier that you can safely transport your cat inside your vehicle and one that your cat is comfortable in.

Truffle travels safely and comfortably inside her True Violet (limited edition) Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed |
The Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed is one of the safest products for traveling with your cat in a vehicle. The Mobile Pet Bed is crash tested and certified for pets up to 15 pounds. This crash testing was done according to the 30 mph child safety standard. The Sleepypod Safety Test Program requires each Sleepypod product meet the highest standards for safety in order to reduce pet exposure to possible hazards. Sleepypod puts its pet carriers through stringent safety tests to include static material tensile testing and dynamic crash testing at the standard set for child safety restraints. All tests are performed at accredited testing and research locations (NHTSA contracted facilities).
When placing the bed into the car, you'll need to use the PPRS handilock. The carrier should be placed in the rear of your car when traveling.to prevent injury in case of an air bag deploying in an accident. The Mobile Pet Bed is secured by the lap portion of the seatbelt around the base of the carrier and the shoulder strap through the top of the carrier. If you'd like to read more about the safety procedures and watch videos of the crash tests, you can view them here.
Watch the video below from Sleepypod that shows how to use the Sleepypod and to securely position in in your vehicle.
Sleepypod® Mobile Pet Bed at the Veterinarian
The Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed is the ideal carrier to take your cat to visit the veterinarian. Your cat is already comfortable in the bed because she is accustomed to resting in it at home. If your cat is fearful of coming out of the carrier to be examined, the mesh top can be removed and the veterinarian can examine your cat inside the carrier where she feels safe. If your cat needs to stay overnight at the veterinarian or a boarding facility, the mesh top can be removed and the base can be placed inside the cage where your cat can sleep in her own bed that has her smells.
Truffle is comfortable when the vet assistant takes her out of the base of the0 Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed to be weighed. |
The Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed is also a place where your cat can rest comfortably in the examination room while waiting on the veterinarian or results of bloodwork. I can easily sit beside one of my cats with the mesh top open and easily pet and comfort them. Every time I need to take one of my cats to the veterinarian, whether it's for a wellness visit, a sick visit, or an emergency visit, the staff at the veterinary hospital remark on how much the love the Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed.

A recent visit to the veterinarian with Brulee (sick), she was very comfortable resting beside me inside her Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed. Notice the white plush lining. |
When both Truffle and Brulee were very sick almost 4 years ago, which required a 5-night stay at the veterinary hospital,. the Sleepypod Mobile Pet Beds (base with mesh top removed) were placed in their cage. All of the veterinary staff said Truffle and Brulee rested and slept inside their Mobile Pet Beds and were less stressed.
Personal Experience with the Sleepypod® Mobile Pet Bed
I've already commented throughout this review how much I like the Sleepypod Mobile Pet Beds for my cats. I'm able to leave them out in the living room where I sit and watch TV and Truffle will usually rest inside the bed. When I changed out the plush liner for the air mesh liner during our hot and humid summers, Truffle loved sleeping in the bed even more. I haven't used the warming kit yet because we have a mild climate in the South and I rarely take them on trips when it's that cold and I keep my house warm. I've heard from people who live in the cold New England Area comment on how much her cats loved the Mobile Pet Bed with the warmer inserted.
The Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed is a little heavier than some other soft-sided carriers (3 pounds) and if you have a cat that weighs 10-15 pounds, you need to take precautions when carrying the carrier. I usually take both cats to the vet at the same time to avoid negative reactions to new smells once one gets home and the other doesn't recognize her sister. I'm thankful for the comfortable straps when carrying both into the veterinary hospital.
I learned the hard way that I need to entirely unzip the zipper to remove the mesh lid rather than leaving the lid attached as a hinge when using the Mobile Pet Bed at home for a bed. This can possibly damage the zipper that connects the base and the mesh top. Sleepypod recommends that you completely remove the mesh top from the base when using the carrier as a bed at home and this information is included in the instruction sheet that is included in the packaging. This was my fault because I didn't fully read the instructions the first time that came with the carrier. This is a lesson to everyone to read everything about a new product when you receive it before you begin using it!
My cats are pretty comfortable when I place them in their carriers to go to the vet. The round shape of the bed allows them to curl up and rest while riding. Truffle is still uncomfortable when traveling, but the 360° mesh top allows her to see me, which tends to calm her down. Brulee curls up and takes a nap while traveling.
I purchased my first Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed in 2015. It wasn't long before I obtained a second Mobile Pet Bed for my cats because of the success and satisfaction with the first one.
Even though the Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed is more expensive than other pet carriers, it's worth it because of the safety features, the comfort of my cats, and the convenience at the veterinarian.

We love our sleepy pod and the vet always comments on how cool it is!
ReplyDeleteI have an older Sleepypod in a different model but would love to win this too to use.
ReplyDeleteWe would love one of these. Now that Mom has a bigger car it would fit easier.
ReplyDeletemy kitties love the sleepy pod, mostly as a bed.
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I've always wondered how one of these would work for my small dog, but decided against buying one because my smallest boy is very close to the weight limit. I ended up going with crash tested crates from another brand, which were not at all cheap and are heavy/bulky, but were rated for larger pets.
ReplyDeleteI have a hard shell carrier that I got from a friend who used it for her dog for many years. My cats share it. I would much prefer this amazing carrier/pet bed.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a good design! Much more comfortable for a pet.
ReplyDeleteThose things really are nice but I'm still over 15 pounds!
ReplyDeleteI'll be heading out in my own Sleepypod in a little while for an overnight with my human.
ReplyDeleteI use a hard-sided carrier and think this would be more comfortable with visibility (for my nosey cat!).
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to win one of these for years. They look much comfier than the hard one we have.
ReplyDeleteI remember your prior blog posts raving about the SleepyPod carrier for your girls. I think the expense is worth the investment. I love their round 360 degree design and soft lining. And now with 9 colors there are even more options. This would make for a great gift for the holidays too!
ReplyDeleteWow, the SleepyPod is super cool. We bet Ava would like sleeping in it. Of course, we've been leaving her regular PTU out lately, and she sleeps in there. MOL
ReplyDeleteWe have a hard sided top loading carrier. It does the job but all three cats hate it. We would love to win the SleepyPod!
ReplyDeleteSleepypod carriers are the best. Their safety and solidity are amazing. I know a friend won a carrier at Blogpaws so I got a closelook at it first hand. I was very impressed.
ReplyDeleteThese pods look fantastic. If I had a cat, I'd absolutely want one.
ReplyDeleteWe have a regular carrier for our kitten, but I would love to give her a Sleepypod. I know she would be comfortable and SAFE in it.
ReplyDeleteI have a larger sleepypod but this would be so much better.
ReplyDeleteI use a small plastic carrier. The Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed would be perfect for my cat to relax in a quiet corner of the room.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely Sleepy Pod Mobile Pet Bed. My cats would've loved it as well. I always had their carriers set out and they would come and go in them as a way to escape from things and heck, it was a "box". But boy, this would've been a major upgrade. It looks like it might be a bit small for my rescue cockapoo. But he does love his beds as well. Truffle and Brulee certainly seem to enjoy this luxe pet mobile bed. Great review!
